"Chris! Where were you?!" My mom yelled at me as I walked in the door at 3am.
"Mom, I told you I was going to a party." I replied.
"Not this late! You know you're suppose to be back at 12! You have a curfew, Chris!"
"I don't care about the damn curfew! You treat me as if I'm a child!"
"Because you are one! You are not an adult until you turn 18! You know what, you're grounded."
"Grounded?"
"Yes, grounded! Go upstairs to your room!"
"This is some bullshit." I walked back out the door.
"Chris! You come back here this instant!" My mom was still yelling from the door. I got back in my car and drove off. All she did was yell at me. Ever since Dad ran off, she's been angry like this. And she takes it out on me.
Driving helps me to blow off steam. I was gonna go back and apologize and do whatever she says. But for now, I needed some time to myself.
I was just cruising down the road in the rain when something caught my attention. It looked like a girl laying in the sidewalk and she was holding something. What do I do? Do I just leave her there? I don't even know her.
I pull over to get a closer look. Then I saw her hair. It was Carter! I knew her hair anywhere. I jumped out my car and ran over to her, picking her up. She was soaking wet and bruised up. She was also holding some type of animal, maybe her pet. I could see what looked like blood on her legs. What had happened to her? I put her in the back seat of my car and turned around, heading home. Mom would've gone to sleep by now.
The lights were out in the house when I pulled up. Yeah, she's sleep. Carter still wasn't moving in the back seat. But her little animal was moving and chattering. I was kinda scared for her to be honest. I got out the car and got her out the back seat, carrying her inside. She was wet from head to toe. I took her in the bathroom upstairs, away from my mom's room so she couldn't hear us. Mom stays on the bottom floor and I stay on the third so it's pretty much like I live alone.
Carter started murmuring while I ran some hot water. She had to be freezing. Her animal was just running around the bathroom, making himself at home. He was a cute little thing, too. I wonder what he is cause he's too big to be a ferret but he's smaller than a cat.
I take Carter's night dress off and see she isn't wearing anything underneath. Hey, I'm not being a pervert, she needs help. Blood was covering her thighs as were bruises except the bruises covered her whole body. Could what I be thinking of have happened to her? I put her in the tub and start cleaning her up. I wonder how she's gonna react when she wakes up. Probably scream at me and says she hates me and run out of here. There's a 99% chance that she will do that.
I washed her up and put her in some of my sister's underclothes that she left when she went to college and in one of my big t-shirts. She looked really beautiful as she slept. I held a strand of her hair in my hand. When she wakes up, I'm gonna have to tell her how much I love her hair, no matter how much she hates me.
The other rooms haven't been cleaned in a while so I just decided to lay her in my bed. She moved around a little bit and tugged on the covers. To be honest, she looked adorable in my shirt. I traced her bruises. Where were they from? The thought had never left my mind. I told myself I hated her but I know deep down that I was worried about her. She was hurt. And I was upset that she was.
Carter's POV
The bed was so soft. I opened my eyes and saw out the window that it was still dark. Where was I? I looked down at myself. I was in a big t-shirt and I had on a bra and underwear. How? Dad had taken them off when he...oh yeah. The thought made me start to cry. I can't believe he did that to me! I clutched the covers as I sobbed into the pillow. The scene was still so fresh in my head.
