"Cat food? What the fuck?" Dan exclaimed out loud. He laughed to himself as he shook his head. Tesco had delivered his usual order of food, shower gel, and cereal, but they had also included: "Whiskers' Cat Food. Treats that will make your cat love you. Meow." Dan sighed as he chucked it the back of his kitchen cupboard, not quite sure what to do with it.
About a week later, on the way back from his weekly radio show, Dan saw a completely snow white cat with a black tail. The cat rubbed itself against Dan's legs meowing loudly. It flicked its tail side to side majestically. This is one hell of a confident cat, Dan thought to himself. Is it stray? Dan bent down to check for a collar or a tag and found no sign of ownership. Weird... its such a pretty cat, surely some 13 year old would have picked it up by now. While Dan didn't want to take the cat in himself, he didn't want to just leave it out either. He decided upon returning tomorrow with some food, if the cat was still there.
Dan dug through his kitchen cupboard and found the cat treats. "Oh! They come in individual packets. Convenient" he murmured to himself. He smiled at how excited he'd just gotten over the prospect of cat food.
The next day, on his way to the BBC, he went to the same place where he had earlier seen the cat, and sure enough, it was still there. Dan bent down as he opened the packet and took out the little circle shaped treats in his hand. He moved his hand closer to the meowing kitty and, it sniffed his hand before eating the treats. Dan dumped the whole contents of the packet onto the ground and the cat nuzzled his hand. He smiled. He lifted one back leg and realised is was a "she." He only then realised the cat also had very green eyes. A green-eyes snow white cat, with a black tipped tail. It looks pure bred, but there's no tags, Dan thought. He pet the cat some more and went on with his journey to underground.
In the evening, on his way back, he didn't see the cat anywhere. Albeit slightly disappointed, Dan continued home, after a tiring day.
He went again the next day, just to see the cat. He had brought a packet of "Whiskers' Cat Food." He smiled when he saw her meowing. Angel. Cuz the white fur. He fed her some food and pet her some more, before leaving again. Don't get too emotionally attached to this cat. You can't keep her. And despite those thoughts, Dan continued this pattern of feeding the cat every morning. He wondered what happened to this cat in the evening; Dan could never find Angel on his way back from work, and yet she was always there in the morning.
The routine continued until one evening, he looked out his window and saw the black, stormy clouds. Rain soon followed and Dan worried about Angel. Where does she go in the evenings? I hope she's fine. Dan promptly got up, picked up a packet of the cat food, pulled on a coat, grabbed an umbrella, and headed out of his flat. He went to the place where he usually saw Angel. But to his surprise, he saw another man with an umbrella, kneeling down and protecting Angel from the rain. Dan stared at the man a bit longer while he pet Angel. He didn't want to seem creepy, so he went up and said, "Hey."
"Oh, hi. Um, is she your cat?" the man asked. Dan noticed he had piercing blue green eyes. And you could see specks of yellow in them, from the light of the streetlamp as well. He also had intense black hair. Whoa, hottie!
"Uh, no. I was actually going to ask you the same thing. I've been feeding her for a while now, and she looks pure bred. But theres no ownership tag, and no one's claimed her yet."
"Oh so it was you feeding her, I wondered where she got her food from."
"I just find it weird." Dan stated. "She's so pretty, I would have expected some little girl to adopt her by now."
"Yeah, same." the man said. "My name is Phil by the way," Phil stated as he held out his hand.
"Dan," Dan replied, extending his hand as well.
Three Years Later
Dan and Phil had been dating for two years now. Angel had left and never come back a day after Dan and Phil met. Sometimes Dan wondered if it was fate. He wondered what his life would be like if he hadn't fed Angel, as he lay in bed next to Phil. No, it went further back than that, he wondered if the Tesco order hadn't messed up, would he know Phil? His amazing, cute and extremely annoying boyfriend. He stayed up at night and wondered if there actually was a thing called destiny, and if he and Phil were meant to belong together. Dan decided to not think of whatever happened in the past, and what will happen in the future. That was not his problem. He was just content in this moment. He snuggled a bit closer to Phil and wrapped his arms around Phil's waist. "I love you so much," he whispered. He closed his eyes and slept almost instantly, unable to hear Phil's reply of "me too."
