Awake, I feel the breeze whisk my skin. I search my eyelids to find my dream has left my mind. The rain tastes bitter sweet as it kisses my permanent skin. The last time I fell asleep, I awoke in Greece. I fit in perfectly with the Gods, the legends. I can surely tell you they aren't just legends. They're real. I soon got large in that life, maybe a little too large, where beauty killed me. Death took me yet again.
Although, my death is not death. It is a slumber in which I awake in another time frame. Centuries later, and in lucky cases, years later.
Lifting my heavy eyelids, I'm starting to remember a life I wish I could have forgotten: Cats that guard the doors to hell. Maybe this is where I am. In hell. Where I'll never find sleep. I'll never find peace. I'll never find a life with him. Him. I'm never truly gone, just in a deep slumber.

Ancient Egypt-I'm running fast, but not fast enough. The foot steps pound against the dry desert, echoing through my head. Oh God my body aches, my breathing is getting out of control and I'm ready to drop dead. I stop, giving up, and turn around and let them grab me. I don't fight the several men as they drag me in a huge castle, knowing I'm not strong enough to live this fight. I woke up this morning, and by the looks of it, time had already evolved without me, and once more, forgetting to let death take me. I'm shoved into a room with an enormous table full of food. I stare at it, wondering what exactly they have put in the soups and bowls of mashed animals. The thought of it makes me gag. Across I see a king, sitting at the end of the table. He looks up, and gestures for me to sit next to him. I follow his orders knowing consequences will be given if I do not cooperate.
"Please eat, my beauty." I stare at the food and then glance back at the king. I spot a plate full of grapes, and place a couple in my bowl. They seem to be the only thing that is actually edible. Parched, I search for a drink, to find my glass is filled with a dark red wine. Silence is broken when the King speaks of his confusion.
"What is your name, young lady?" I look around for a moment, and try to remember what life I have been thrown into this time. "Cleopatra," I studder, once the name strikes my memory. He nods, "You will be staying here, with Emanuel. You will rest with him watching you. In the least, you have 20 hours before you have a big celebration to attend to." I nod, my dark black hair resting on my face.
The rest of the meal is silent as I consume all of the grapes, while everyone else digs in. After the once filled glass of wine is gone, something inside dosn't feel right. Have they poisoned me, or is my gut trying to tell me something?
Emanuel. He has eyes..eyes that I have surely seen before. It sends alarms off inside my head. My brain starts pounding, thoughts scratching at my skull. Emanuel. That's when I realize, it's him. It can't be. It's not him, he couldn't be here. It's not possible. I notice my fingers are slightly shaking, and I hide them under the table. Once the king is done, he orders two, noticeably dirty, slaves to lead me and Emanuel up to the room.
Once inside, they slam the door behind. And I take in my surroundings, at least trying to get comfortable. 1 door, 4 walls, 1 window, and a fireplace that lights up the room. A pile of pillows must be the bed and two blankets are folded ready to be used. I walk to the window, and rest my elbows on it. The stars light is less than what I remember, but the warmth of the light still hugs me. Which, is something that hasn't changed. The only thing that hasn't changed.
Soft hands are placed on my waist. The touch, the warmth, it's all too familiar. Scary almost. His touch sends sirens off in my head, which send me backing away. Those eyes, they drag me back towards him, and that's when I know it's him.

Present day-I'm pulling my pants up, and zip them up. Buttoning up my shirt, I hear him, "Don't go just yet.." I look down into his brown eyes, "I have to see. I have to know." I lean down and touch his cheek with the side of my thumb. I slip on my hoodie and satchel. I walk out the door, and tip toe down the hall to the window that let me in. I climb out and head into the woods, where the trees hide me.
After two miles of walking, I stop and climb a tree. As I reach the top the wind picks up. I push up, and finally reach the top. What I find is fairly suprising, beautiful grass that flows in the wind. A sunrise that kisses the horizon. Horses, cows, birds, they all seem so free. It's sad, because for once, I almost wish he was here with me, sitting in this tree, his smile that would brighten my world. And all I wish was that there was a way. A way to bring him back.
