"Hurry up Daire! We're gonna be late to school!"

"I'm coming!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, letting my sister know she could start the car. I pushed my backpack further onto my back so it wouldn't slip. Then I grabbed an apple from the kitchen counter and walked out of the door, locking it nice and tight. Not even bothering to open the passenger door, I jumped into the car and got comfortable in my sister's new car.

She stroked the seat cushions affectionately. "Being 18 is amazing!"

I rolled my eyes. "Shut up Susanna. Stop rubbing it in my face."

She gave a laugh. "Only 2 years to go Daire and you'll have your own vehicle." She smiled and winked in my direction. "So any hot sophomore boys this year?"

I almost spit out the apple piece I was chewing. There were some. "Oh please don't tell me you're going cougar Susanna," I joked. Nice save.

"Well," she shrugged. "They probably didn't look in your direction anyways." I glared at her and she shrugged again. "I offered to do those bushes of yours that you call eyebrows! I even told you I would pay for a perm."

"I don't need all that stuff," I growled. "My real true love will see past the looks and love the goodness in my heart."

She gave a brief "ha!" before saying, "Then be prepared to be a virgin for life sweetheart. You might as well just become a nun right now." I glared yet again. She had a blunt look on her face in return. "That's what you wanted to be, right?"

"I want to be a doctor. I've told you a million times already."

Susanna chuckled. "I know sweetheart. I know. I just like messing with my dear little sister!" She took one hand off the steering wheel to pinch my cheek.

We arrived at school just in time. I rushed to my locker and threw the things I didn't need in there before closing it with a little too much force and running to class.

"Late again Daire," my English teacher said to me.

"Loser," someone coughed up behind me. I just sighed and went to my seat at the back of the class. This was my average school day.

Unlike my sister, who had a wild and outgoing personality, I stayed reserved and wore clothes that kept me warm and sheltered me, not ones that looked sexy or were thought of as attractive. My long brown hair went to my thighs. I always wore my lucky sneakers. The only time I took them off was when I was at home. I gave off a tomboy vibe to most people, but also looked to be a really shy girl.

My sister always had more of the attention. She was in her last year of high school and was invited to every party. She would get drunk every Friday nights so she would call up her friend Chase to drive her home, who I knew quite well now, just because she was drunk that many times. Oh well. That was her life not mine. If she wanted to throw her education away in the garbage, there was nothing I could do.

A paper ball hit the back of my head. I turned around to see who it was, but everyone was "working." Since no one claimed it, I turned back around to work. Then another one came. I huffed out a breath and turned back around. They were doing this on purpose. They just wanted to get a reaction out of me, see my stupid expressions. I turned to face the front again. Well they wouldn't get much of one.

I heard the paper being crumbled before they could throw it. I turned my head to the back and shouted, "stop!"

It only gained disapproving looks from the teacher. I sighed and continued on with my work. Everyone chuckled. To be honest though, this was getting tiring. Sometimes I wanted to take my sister's advice and just cut my hair and shave my legs for once. I mean my legs had never been that hairy so I never bothered to shave...but I felt now was the time for change.
