Family

Family. Everyone around me has one. A mother, father, some even have siblings. They love each other. Some hate each other. There are ones who wish they didn't have one. But, they don't understand the feeling of not having one. I do have people who look after me, but they're not my original family. This is one of the things I think about while I'm in the shower. It's been about 15 minutes. I should get out to make sure my "brother," Jack, has enough hot water.

I turn the water off and put on my grey towel. I use my hand to wipe off the condensation on the mirror. I stare back at the reflection into those teal eyes. Hard to believe those are mine. Then I let my eyes travel to my hair. The hair that cursed me with society. It just had to be silver. Yes, silver. Such an abnormal color. I wish I could be normal like everyone else.

"Luna! I don't have all day. I need to get ready for work." Jack is always impatient.

"Sorry Jack."

I get out and lightly punch Jack in the shoulder. We always like to mess around with each other. Before he closed the door, he yelled "DORK" then slammed the door as loud as he could. I am happy to have Jack in my life, I just wish it didn't have to be exactly this way.

I get into my room and scavenge around to find a perfect outfit. I picked out my thigh high black skirt, white tank top, and my black combat boots. Well, these weren't actually my clothes. They're my "Mom's". She didn't want them and thought they would look good on me.

I have to make a good impression, but they'll still think I look like a freak and should be thrown away. I had to go to therapy again, then school. The two things I don't feel like doing. I just got another therapist today, and I have to tell her everything. I had to say the same stuff over 10 times. That's how much I had to switch therapists.

I slid down the railing on the stairs into the kitchen to grab some toast. I take out 3 pieces of bread, throw it into the toaster, then pull down the handle and sprint my way into the living room to watch the news.

The usual woman on the news stated, "The weather today is going to be cloudy with a little chance of rain. Even with this month being December, it's going to be up to the 50's and 60's this week. As for traffic..."

I smelled something burning....... "MY TOAST!"

I jumped up from the couch and unplugged the toaster. It wasn't that burnt. Just a little bit in the middle. As I was spreading the grape jam, Jack came downstairs with a short sleeve, light blue, Nike shirt and nice light blue jeans. He sniffed the air and had a confused face.

"Is something burning?"

"Sorry. I wasn't paying attention and I burned it a little. Not by much!"

"I swear, one day you're going to burn the house down."

"It's not like I try to! I just have a problem with burning things," I said while giving him a pouting face.

He came up and took his piece of toast right out of my hands. He ruffled my hair and wiped the remaining jam on his face, then licked it off his finger.

"Did you wake up Mom and Dad yet?"

"No. We should let them sleep. Hannah and Tyler are going to have a difficult day today anyways. We should at least be somewhat nice."

"Why don't you just say, Mom and Dad?"

"But they're not my original family."

"But- Never-mind. Grab your bag and toast. Meet me at the car, you Dork."

"Okay."

I grab my black and red backpack and pop the piece of toast in my mouth. I go through the back screen door and jump into Jack's car. He has a nice, crimson red, 2000 model mustang. Once Jack got his license, he needed to show off and buy one of the best looking cars in town. Jack can be such a show off, but is very protective over me. I don't understand why. I'm not his biological sister. Well, I shouldn't be thinking about that right now. I should just enjoy the ride and time there.
