Harry and Louis were sitting down just talking as they usually did to pass their time. That was until they got some post. It was just 3 days until Christmas and Louis had no money at all. He spent the last 20 pence on cheap jam for Harry.
Louis glanced at Harry as he finished reading the letter. The letter explained that the rent had gone up months ago and Louis hadn't paid the extra. This meant that he owed his landlord £200 by Christmas Day. The problem with that was that Louis barely made £100 a month let alone £200 in 3 days.
Louis had no idea what to do. He looked at his beautiful, innocent little boy and started thinking of ways to keep him safe but he knew that it was no longer possible. Tears filled his eyes as he glanced back at the same four words on the page. Those words were 'you will be evicted'. Louis knew they were going to become homeless but he didn't know how to tell Harry the bad news.
"Haz, honey... Uhm.. Things aren't looking good. We may have to leave... I know I always find a way but baby, I'm out of options. When I say that, I mean we will be living on the streets and I'm gonna lose my job. I will do anything and everything I can to keep you warm and safe but the dead of winter is the worst time for this to happen." Louis spoke as tears rolled down his cheeks.
"Why, daddy?" Harry asked cutely, not understanding.
"Well, you see, these letters?" Louis asked and held them all up. "Bills, bills and more bills" he spoke as he put each one down on the table. "They cost a lot of money and I can't afford them. I owe a lot of money that I just can't afford to pay. I'm so sorry that it has to be this way, baby." He spoke softly.
Harry still didn't really understand but he nodded slowly.
Christmas Day soon came and Louis had their bags packed up as the landlord came to kick them out. When they found somewhere dry to sit, Louis wrapped the two of them up in the blankets he had and gave Harry the jam he bought for him for Christmas. "Merry Christmas, baby." Louis spoke brokenly as he watched his small child.
Harry ate his jam and thanked Louis, looking up at him. After just a few moments, Harry started shivering and crying. "Daddy, it's cold." Harry whimpered.
Louis took his own coat and blankets off, putting them all on Harry. "I'm so sorry." He whispered sadly. "This is all I can do, baby." Louis sniffled.
"Thank you, daddy. I love you." Harry spoke innocently in an attempt to make his father feel better about the situation.
"I love you too, Haz. I just wish I could do more to prove that." Louis ran a hand through his hair. "Why don't you lay down, use my lap as a pillow and go to sleep, my love?" He asked Harry, hugging him tight and close as he nodded and done as Louis asked.
