"Cary! Cary!" My eye's fluttered open, a blurry white ceiling staring at me. I took in a deep breath, inhale the usually smile of smoke and diapers. "Cary! You gotta get up!" I let out an annoyed sigh and attempted to raise my body from it's comfortable position only to be knocked down by a tiny force. "Cary! Mommy wants you up!" I looked to my lap to find my little brother, Kyle Hatfield age 5, hugging my waist tightly, a smile curving his small lips. "Kyle,I can't get up unless you let go." I sighed, shaking my head. I do realize that he is only 5 but this was a everyday event. "Oh right!" He giggled and slid of my bed and ran out my room, almost tripping on a tipped over paint canvas. I got to a sitting position and reached for my glasses that were placed on my nightstand. Next to it was buzzing phone, I rolled my eyes knowing it had to be my friend Lucas Upton, age 16.

Lucas: Good morning

Lucas: heeeelllllooooo

Lucas: carter

Lucas: r u ignoring the king?

Lucas: i never thought u could be so shallow

Lucas: bitch answer your god damn phone

Lucas: ugh hurry im ready to go

Me: mmhmm

I let out a groan and lifted myself off my bed, stepping on something wet in the processes. I looked down to see my feet placed upon a paint pallet that I had left out the night before. The mixture of colors such as blue, green and red now caked my feet as i carefully placed my feet on news papers that laid on the ground and headed towards the outside bathroom.

Once I was able to safely wash my feet off I got to the sink to brush my teeth, as I placed my self upwards and looked in the mirror. I winced at the terrifying monster in front of me. My long maroon hair was scattered and knotted, my pale skin had seen to gray, my dark brown eyes were tired and annoyed, my nose seemed sharper and more noticeable and my lips were chapped and flaky, forming a normal and comfortable frown. I tried to study my face some more only to be interrupted by my brother who had climbed onto the sink and was now blocking the mirror.

"Kyle!" A loud voice screeched from the door frame and from looking in the mirror, I could tell it was my step-mother Grace, a cigarette in her mouth and her child 3-year-old Gracie in her arms. "What the hell are you doing?!?" Kyle slightly winced at the use of 'hell', he was not used to bad language.

Grace had only been married to my father for 2 months, and those 2 months were the worst days of my life. "Why are you acting so stupid? Get down from there!!" Her screeched pitched higher causing me to slightly wince, Kyle simply looked down shamefully. "NOW!" Kyle quickly dropped to the floor and ran out the bathroom. Grace let out a puff of smoke and directed her attention to me, a quick look of disgusted formed on her twisted plastic face. "You look ridiculous, like shit." I simple nodded, knowing if I was to do anything else I would get a cigarette burn to the forehead. "Fix yourself, no wonder you don't have any friends." She attempted to mumble the last part but her loud voice caused her to fail. I didn't move or say anything, I simple waited till she left and mentally flicked her off before returning my attention to my messy self.

Once I final made myself look ok I returned to my room to grab my backpack and other useless essentials and made my way out the door."Aren't you gonna eat?" I heard a loud voice say behind me, I already knew it was Grace. "I'll eat at school." I responded, a part of me cringed at that lie. "Ok, then." Grace sounded offended but I didn't care much and I grabbed my keys and slipped out the door.

Why did you lie?

A part of my brain questioned the other. Because I hate eating breakfast. It responded, a true response anyway. Most say breakfast is the most important meal of the day but to me it's just another meal. I jumped in the driver side of my car and put the key in the ignition but before I left, I pulled my phone out.

Me: on my way

Lucas: bout time

Me: im sorry Godzilla snapped at me

Lucas: your excuse is accepted

I rolled my eyes at Lucas's comment and placed my foot on the gas pedal and pushed.
