Hi there! The name's Natsu, Natsu Dragneel! I kind of stick out like a sore thumb at school because of my salmon-pink hair. Thankfully, friends and family are pretty similar with odd or brightly colored hair. I'm a senior at Fairy Tail High. I'm not extremely popular, but I have a fairly big group of friends at school. Just like any other school, we have our cliques, but we mingle a lot for different things. I'm not exceptionally smart, in fact, I'm kind of a knucklehead when it comes to math...hehe... Anyway, I live with my dad, Igneel. I'm actually adopted and never met my biological parents. My mother died when I was very young and my father had abandoned my mother and I shortly after I was born. However, Igneel's raised me as his own son despite our non-blood relation. I love him dearly and still treat him as though he were my creator. As Igneel once told me, "It takes a father to make a child, but a dad to raise one." Those words of wisdom have grown into a deep respect for my dad. I don't know how he puts up with me sometimes; I can be quite a rude jerk, especially to my sister, Wendy. She's a freshman at Fairy Tail High this year, and I'm worried for her. I know she can defend herself because we've both been taking jiu jitsu lessons for years, but I also know how evil and sketchy high school douchebags can be. Call me overprotective if you'd like, but I'd do anything to keep my little sister safe.
Unfortunately, tomorrow is the first day of senior year and I'm still stuck facing a bet made by my friends from school: I have to get a girlfriend by the end of the year, or they ask a girl out for me at Prom night. I've dreaded it because I know I keep putting it off. Some girls have approached me and asked if I was "free" or something of the sort, but I always blew them off saying I'm too busy focused on school or that I just don't time in general. There's some truth to that, but really it's because I have no idea how to act romantically with a girl. I'm a hopeless romantic the moment I'm near someone I find slightly attractive, despite my best efforts to prepare for a date, or getting advice from friends. I know I have to change that this year, not only for the bet, but because I'd like to have someone to call my own. The thing is, I haven't met someone that's caught my eye, at least not yet.
I just woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring in my face. 6:00 a.m. Great.. If I don't hurry up, I'll miss the bus. I get up and shower and dress as quickly as possible. Igneel's in the kitchen making coffee and toast. He hands me my plate smiling, saying, "Ohayō." I return the greeting, toast half sticking out of my face. "Wendy awake yet?" I ask, gulping down my daily glass of orange juice. "I can wake her up if you want Otōsan?" I inquire as he shakes his head. "Sure, why not. Just don't be rude. You know how she is in the morning.." He calls as I bolt up the stairs. I walk down the hall to Wendy's door and knock, looking at all the pictures of her and her cat, Carla, decorating the door. My knocks were met with silence. I knocked again saying, "Wendy...Onii-chan, I'm coming in!" I open the door to see her neat little room. Well..almost neat. She made a mess of her covers on the bed as she turned herself into a burrito last night. I let a slight chuckle slip from my lips as I walked towards her bundle of warmth. I start unrolling her and see a white cat snuggled in the blanket, curled up next to Wendy's face. I smile as I pick Carla up and lift my little sister up to wake from her slumber. She had slobbered all over her pillow last night and there were still traces of drool on her face as she groggily opened her eyes. "Ohayō." I greet her softly as her blue orbs meet my green ones. She smiles lightly, mumbling, "Ohayō.. What time is it..?" She yawns and rubs her eyes as I tease her, "6:23. You might wanna shower soon. It is your very first day of high school, you know?" Immediately, her blue eyes flash with excitement and fear. "I'm gonna be late!" She bolts out of bed to grab a few clothes before sprinting to the bathroom down the hall. I sigh and chuckle slightly as I put Carla down and make my way out the room. I head back down stairs to tell my dad she's awake before I go to feed Carla and Happy, my blue cat.
After the cats are fed, I make my way to my room to gather things for school. After my backpack is situated for today's struggles, I knock on the bathroom door. "Wendy! Hurry up! If you're not ready in the next 10 minutes, Otōsan is gonna have to drive us to school... In his robe and slippers!" I immediately hear her excited terror as she scuffles behind the door. "NUUUUUU! NOT THE SLIPPERS OF SHAME!" I laugh out loud at the thought of Igneel driving us to school in his embarrassing first day out fit... Again. He's done it every year since I started high school as encouragement to make sure we're on time. Unfortunately, Wendy and I didn't believe him my freshman year and he held true to his threat. Three years ago, Igneel drove Wendy and I to school wearing a robe as pink as my hair and big 'ol blue bunny slippers that matched Wendy's eyes. It was the most embarrassing thing he's ever done...so far. I shuddered slightly at thought of him embarrassing Wendy on her first day of high school, knowing she'd be traumatized by the humiliation at a new school.
I was dragged back to reality from my reminiscing by the sound of Wendy tumbling down the stairs trying to put on shoes. Unfortunately, she can be a real klutz. She picked herself up and straightened her school uniform as she attempted to finish putting on her shoe. "Have we missed the bus yet? I really don't wanna have Otōsan drive us.. I'd prefer to avoid that this year." She asked while slinging her bag over her shoulder. I simply shook my head while laughing. "See you later, Otōsan!" We both called as we left out of the front door.
We both rushed slightly down the street to catch the school bus, but we made it all the same. The ride for us was the same as it has been in the past; loud white noise of chitter chatter. We greet our friends on the bus and discuss our vacations. Some of us had talked and hung out, but others we hadn't seen in a few months. I sat in the seat behind my best friend, Gray Fullbuster. It's a love-hate relationship but we've been friends since we were little kids. He has a bad habit of stripping down at the slightest bit of heat, which has gotten him a few fan girls, but one has gone over the top a lot. Juvia Loxar has had the biggest crush on Gray for three years now. Every attempt she made, he slides out the danger zone and blows her off. Despite his best efforts, she won't surrender. I laugh as I tease him saying he forgot his pants at home, only to have him look down to check and yell at me for trying to trick him. "Not my fault you strip unconsciously Ice Princess!" I retort.
"You tryna start something on the first day back, Flame Brain?!" He gruffs. "Let it go, Elsa. You can never beat me in your dreams!" I sung back. By this time, we are filing off the bus, our friends singing "Let It Go," while Gray and I are roughhousing around, giving noogies as we pass the front gate. My friends and I go to get our schedules to find our classes. I got my schedule after giving the office worker my last and first name. I smiled while looking at my classes for the year.
Class Period Building
1. Japanese Literature C
2. Algebra II E
3. Fiore Gov't History F
4. Anatomy D
5. Guitar M
6. English Language B
7. Football FieldI quickly compared my schedule with the group I hang out with before we have to part ways. I have English with Gray and Levy, Math alone, History with Elfman and Evergreen, Anatomy with Mira and Erza, Guitar with Gajeel, most of us shared our English Language class, and I had football with all the guys after school. Thankfully, we all joined together and our competitiveness let us all make team A Varsity for our last year here.
We all said our good byes as we parted for class before the opening rally. Levy, Gray, and I all made our way to the C building to find our Japanese Literature class. After changing shoes, we entered class and swiftly found seats near each other. I sat next to the window about halfway towards the back of the class, with an empty seat in front of me. Nakanamara-sensei entered the class soon after we sat down and the class president, Levy, started class. Furakawa-sensei discussed our curriculum for the year. "Okay class, it seems we have a transfer student today." She said while motioning to the door. Immediately the door opened to reveal the most gorgeous blonde I'd ever seen in my entire life...Words: 1659
