Today I woke up and realized I am thankful for my family, I thought as I peeked outside my bedroom window. Not many times could I actually be thankful to have a family, to be honest, this was the first time I actually had people I could call family.
Many, many times I had been tossed, and thrown into different homes, but today I felt as though it would be different. Today was the day.
I watched outside my bedroom window, stalks of corn had spread throughout the fields. Birds chirping.
That's when I heard it.
A shout coming from outside, followed by a lady, my foster mom Sue, getting her dog from being tangled. I smiled. It wasn't a forced smile, but a smile that expressed how I felt secure. It was a soft smile that spread from ear to ear. The word secure gave me a warm feeling inside the pit of my stomach. A feeling I had never felt before.
Sue.
That lady down the stairs, would soon be the one I'd call mom.
Racing down the stairs, I felt as though I couldn't get to her fast enough. Hitting the last step, I knew I was almost to her. I pounced off the step, and when I got close enough I wrapped my arms tightly around Sue.
Hesitating on what to do, Sue paused for a second. After she realized who the girl was, she gave me a warm embrace.
'I'm Home' was the words that rang in my head as I hugged tighter. Finally Home.
