Chapter Twelve

Going to school again was normal, surprisingly. We were already used to acting as a couple, so being a real couple at school didn’t create any stares. It had been almost three weeks since we’d came back from Alaska, but today was our first day back.

“Why didn’t you tell me?” Hanna asked.

          “About…?”

          “The whole werewolf thing?”

“I’m not allowed to tell humans, only a human’s mate can tell,” I shrug, and then smile.

“So, you and Aiden, huh?” I smiled.

“So, you and Brent, eh?” she laughs and nods.

“Has he marked you?” I asked, and she blushes. I’ll take that as a yes.

“At least he didn’t mark you where you can’t hide it,” I grumble, pointing to my neck.

“You know you loved it, babe,” Brent’s voice says behind me, and wraps his arms around me.

---

I could see Tyler glaring at us from my seat on Brent’s lap. Brent instinctively tightened his grip around my waist, starting to let out a low growl—too low for humans to hear.

“Chill,” I kiss him, and he kisses back, almost immediately.

“I love you,” his voice is hoarse and husky, his eyes the golden color of his wolf’s.

“Miss Klein? I’m not feeling very well, may I go to the nurse?” I feign being sick.

“Oh, yes! Brent, will you make sure she gets there okay?” she says, and we leave. Brent and I rush into the oh-so-famous janitor’s closet, kissing the whole way.

---

It wasn’t until halfway through dinner that Brent’s dad made the announcement.

“The Moonshine Pack isn’t happy about your mate, and they’re now planning to attack. They want to take control of our pack, since they can’t ally themselves with us,” he said.

“They plan to attack on Friday, so we’re going to attack them early Friday morning,” he replied.

It was a known fact that battles caused pain, and not just physically. The death of one’s mate causes so much grief, that they usually end up killing themselves. Brent and I had only just gotten together, and I had a secret that I hadn’t yet shared with him, that might just kill him…send him packing. But do I tell him when there’s a small chance that he might not make it back?
