There was nothing left. They had left my home in dismay and destruction. They had left everybody's home in this state. The whole town was in ruins, the vampires had come to town and taken everything - including my family.

Chapter One

My eyes were full of fresh tears, slowly streaming down my cheeks. My house had been robbed of all signs of life, my family were gone, my belongings were gone or shattered and so were all other objects. Windows were smashed, blood on the walls and doors wrenched off their hinges. I ran up the stairs to find the same fate. My sobs were now turning into hysterics - what would I do? I was alone, the neighbours and their neighbours houses looked the same. My town was lifeless, the finding pack had come for them. But they were nowhere near here the last time I heard about them! Where do I go? Do I stay? Will they come back? I collapsed with overwhelming grief and confusion. The carpet was not even here anymore - it had been ripped from the floorboards and probably dumped in one of the bedrooms. Then I had a thought, usually the finding pack leave a note explaining the houses state and why they came. I ran to every room, looking for an explanation to what I already knew. My family were dead, they were being used for blood and kept in prisons. They had taken my community while I had been at nanas, is that why mother sent me? Did she ave an inkling of what was going to happen to her?

The world had been taken over by vampires. I was just a witness. It begun in 2075, with the first ever vampire. Well, the first to be discovered. Nobody knew how they evolved into vampires - they obviously came from humans. But they were not anything like us. Vampires noses were highly arched into almost a hook, and their eyes were a piercing yellow. They were very tall, the average height almost standing two metres tall, but incredibly slim. Their veins instead of a natural green colour slightly showing under their skin, was a rich, deep red - and they jutted out from their hands and neck. They were not pale and allergic to sunlight as myths once told us - they thrive in both sunlight and nocturnal darkness, and they were olive in skin colouring. Their hair is almost always fair, a black haired vampire is very rare - but worshiped for looks in the vampire community.

Their personalities were far from human too. They were animals, highly uncivilised and just wanted warm human blood on their tongues. They were vicious in the way they got it - setting up traps and nets to catch unsuspecting humans. But as time went on, The International Vampire Organisation formed, seeing the disasters taking place for both sides - as humans evacuated some countries and set nuclear weapons and bombs on vampires, and the trapping and slaughtering from the vampires side. They set rules for vampires, and set up a prison where humans were drained of blood from random draws in society. Vampires pick up a certain amount of blood each month, and a certain amount of humans go into the prison each six months. But that soon got out of hand too - the finding team (the vampires human catchers) taking whole cities of people to their prison without permission. Now they've taken my city, and I'm alone.

I was in the kitchen, searching the bench tops when I saw a small, tidy piece of paper on the stove. I snatched it and began to read:

To whomever it may concern,

This house has been searched and destroyed by the finding pack. All human beings found inside have been taken to the blood prison for blood storation. They shall be drained within the next six months, if not needed then banished to the Village of Lamia.

Thank you for understanding,

International Vampires Organisation.

I had six months. Otherwise they were to be dead or turned to vampires in the Village Of Lamia. Where do I go? I searched my drawers - no clothes, no bags, and only a small twenty dollar note lying underneath them. I picked it up gratefully, and looked at the torn sheets on my floor. Could I salvage them to make anything to sleep in? I picked them up, and went to my mothers bedroom in search of a needle and thread.

I did find one eventually, lying in the pocket of a ripped cardigan. It astounded me how the finding team manages to wreck a house like this - let alone a city of houses. There must be thousands of them, I thought as I sewed. The sheet began to finally sort of resemble its former self, and I was overall pleased with my efforts. I wanted to add all the ripped clothing to it, but I didn't know if I had enough thread. I searched the kitchen for food, and found a can of apricots and a packet of bars. The sun had finally gone behind the trees, and I wondered how I was going to get food. The bathroom taps were still intact, so I could drink from there. But where was the food I was going to get? Then an idea hit me. I was alone in a city of ruined houses. At least one of them must have food...

I ran to my neighbours house, the cold night breeze hitting me and giving goosebumps. The electricity didn't work in this house, so I was hunting in the dark. The lounge I didn't even bother with - it was so destroyed I didn't have a hope of finding anything still intact anyway. A bag that was not too badly torn was in the first bedroom, it was big and would fit my sheets and anything else I could find. A puffer jacket was lying at the foot of the wardrobe, still in perfect condition. I almost cheered at my find, very happy that I could at least stay warm. The kitchen only had a packet of crushed crackers and squashed bread. I also found a small mug, which would be useful in the long term.

I spent the night creeping between the neighbourhoods houses, creating a small collection of things I would need when I set off to find the prison. Yes, I had decided I was going to go to this prison and rescue my family - I didn't know how but I would cross that bridge when I came to it.

The morning's pale sunlight streamed over the skies of my city, and it saddened me that I was the only one here. I would need to set off soon - I had no idea when my family was being killed apart from the very unspecific six month time frame, and I didn't know where the prison was. It could be on the other side of the world for all I know - I had heard of cases where the prisoners had been flown to another continent and some had died on the plane flight from freezing to death in the bottom compartments of the plane. Why they were in there is anyones guess - maybe there were too many people and they had to put some in dangerous places? But all I knew was that the finding team were vicious and would do anything to get humans to there prison for blood storation.

I looked through my heavy bag. It was so full the seams on the sides were splitting, and I would need another bag soon. Or I would have to get rid of some items I'd collected, which I was highly opposed to do. I had a few hundred dollars, lots of food, cups and littler bags, clothing and bedwear. I looked at my supply. It was awfully large to carry around, but awfully small to last me however long it was going to take to get the next load of food or other things I would need. I decided to make a makeshift bag using the sheets and thread I had found, which took me a good hour or two. Then I decided to pack everything which took even longer. I was finally ready to leave to find my family - a journey that would change my life forever.
