Spirits

Part 1

James Thompson was at the precipice of breaking down and crying in front of his boss. Well...former boss now. James had messed up big time and Mr.King was having none of it. Before he even got a chance to speak, Mr.King fired Thompson.

As he stiffly turned around James could see the happy smiles and relieved faces staring straight back at him. He felt diminishes and small. Too sad to say anything. James completely
ignored the friendly hellos from the oblivious co-workers passing by: they obviously hadn't heard the news.

When james reached the desolate bus stop only then did he start to think how this would affect his family. He had barely enough money to pay the rent but now that's he's lost his job....James his wife and his 6 year old son would be forced to live on the dark, damp street, with only stray cats for company.

The 267 soon arrived and James solemnly got on. There were so many thoughts racing through his mind that when the bus finally came to a halt, James didn't realise and ended up missing his stop. He got off at the next available stop and slowly dragged himself home.

The tension grew as James came closer and closer to the worn out front door. His heart beat increased rapidly to a point where it felt as if he had no pulse at all.

"Just man up " he muttered angrily.

He tried to look a little hopeful as he opened the old door.

"Honey, i'm home" james reluctantly called out.

No reply

"Honey are you here?" he cautiously said.

Again, nothing but silence followed. James frantically ran up the stairs and and found the wardrobe empty except for a few of his baggy clothes and a note on the bed confirming his worst fear.
