It read " i'm sorry James but we are leaving. Our son needs a future and you clearly can't give him that. I've tried to give him the life he needs with you but that cant work. You come home from work, eat and then sleep. It's like we are not even there. i have decided that this is what i want to do. Goodbye james". His wife's signature was written in a ballpoint pen in the corner of the note.
James curled upon the side of the creaky bed. He scrunched up the small paper- knowing all too well that he had destroyed the last thing that he had to remember his wife- and let it fall to the ground, just like his own broken heart. James cried and cried until he could cry no more. Tears streamed down his face like a waterfall.
Abruptly the room was engulfed in a silence.
A furious rage built up inside him and he shot up, taking deep and heavy breaths full of anger. His long face almost looked demonic as he stomped down the basement stairs.
The wallpaper was slowly chipping off and even though the lights were on an eerie darkness filled the accursed room. The spirits seemed so harmless but James knew better. They were aligned perfectly like they had been waiting for him .
"This is all their fault, those stupid spirits!" he shouted to himself.
"I've lost my friends, my family and my job all because of them, my life was doomed the moment they arrived and now its time to get rid of them".
James grabbed the spirit by its long neck and glared intently at its smooth figure. The reason his life was in complete ruined was right in front of his dark brown eyes. He ran a weak hand through his black, shaggy hair. Suddenly James' expression changed.
"You may have taken everything away from me "James said breaking the thick layer of silence.
"but you are the only comfort i have left. I can't possibly get rid of you now.
And with that, James made his final decision: he tightened his grip around the spirits transparent neck and poured himself another glass.
