It was mid-day, and the usual morning bustle had long since passed. The small town wasn't as active during this time of day, as most of its inhabitants were at work. None the less, there were quite a few people hustling up and down the street, running errands or simply going for a stroll.
The day was calm, though the dark clouds on the horizon gave a silent promise of rain later that evening. No one noticed the dark figure leaning in the shadows of a building. People passed by the alleyway it was in as if they didn't see it. As if it were invisible. Piercing (e/c) eyes observed the humans as they walked by, oblivious to the fact that a monster was mere meters away.
Another figure joined the one in the shadows and crossed its arms over its chest, leaning against the brick building across from its shadowy friend. "Lovely day, isn't it?" His voice was deep, as if he didn't talk often. The other's eyes flick to him briefly before going back to the people passing by the entrance of the alley. "Too bright for my liking." The voice of the figure was (deep/high), but hidden underneath it was a malicious tone filled with dark intentions. It had a haunting allure to it. The new figure grinned in response, his sharp canines glinting.
Silence fell over the duo as they watched the humans rush back and forth. A few minutes passed before the first figure seem to remember something. They turned around and picked up a small and bloody sack before slinging it towards the other. The other figure caught it and stuffed it in the pocket of his hoodie. "Harvested it from last night's kill. The girl was a wailer, screaming and crying for her mum. Got rather annoying." The one with the hoodie looked at him curiously. "I thought you fed off of fear?"
The same piercing gaze flicked back to the figure with amusement filled eyes. "I do. Without it I'd cease to exist. But there's a difference between the feeling of fear and annoying screaming."
"...Touché. I gotta go now. The boss will wonder what I'm doing out in broad day light for so long."
He received a nod in response. He slipped his hands in the pocket of his hoodie and started towards the entrance of the alley. He paused when he heard his name called. "Don't have too much fun with the organs." He snorted.
The sun was just above the horizon, and the clouds from earlier were overhead. As they had silently promised, it began to rain. At first it was a drizzle, but as the minutes wore on it began to become a downpour. By now the sun had hidden behind the dark clouds, like a small child clutching the dress of its mother. Funny, the dark figure mused, that the dresses they wore nowadays could barely cover anything and they certainly left little to the imagination.
The once busy streets were now dark and empty, save for the one lone figure in the road. It stretched, raising its arms above its head and shifting to stand on its toes. A loud POP came from its back and it shifted back into a casual stance. Lightning struck and the faint light from the street lamps were snuffed out like a candle. Complete and utter darkness now blanketed the small town, broken only by the odd flash of lightning.
The click of nails on cement was hidden beneath the sound of the storm, yet the figure in the road seemed to hear it and turned around to greet it. Glowing white eyes met piercing (e/c) as the figure bent down to the small animal that had approached. "A beautiful storm, is it not?" The white eyes narrowed in annoyance. "It would be beautiful if I was inside and not soaked to the bone." A grin lit up the shadowy figure's face at the words of the black cat. "How about we fix that?" A similar grin spread on the cat's face.
They marched down the street, the storm still raging on around them. Branches and leaves from trees were strewn about, tossed around like toys as the storm picked them up and hurled them. As they neared a neighborhood, another flash of lighting struck a tree. It burst into flames before toppling over and landing almost directly on top of the monstrous duo. The cat grumbled under his breath while the other one watched in amusement as it slipped underneath the tree to meet on the other side.
They stopped at the first house they came to. It was a bit larger than the house from last night, and instead of being white it was a light blue. It still had the porch and a now ruined garden in front. They slipped in underneath the door and immediately melted into the shadows when two children bolted past them and ran into the kitchen. "Momma! Momma! We're hungry!" Their whiny voices grinded the ears of the figures as they observed the family move about in the house.
Finally, the children were put to bed and the parents had fallen asleep. The cat went for the little girl and the other figure went for the little boy. The boy's room was spacious, and various chests for toys were pushed up against the walls and against the foot of the bed. The walls were green and the floor was a cherry wood, creating slick footing for those in socks. The little boy was tossing in the bed, the blankets shifting as he moved. The shadow made a move for the bed, but before he could step a foot he paused when he heard the screaming of the parents. The little boy jolted awake and fell out of bed, landing on the wooden floor. He stood up and bolted to the door when he heard his parents pained shouts and cries, but didn't get very far when the figure reached out and snatched him up. He was suspended in the air for a few shocking moments before his head was ripped from his body.
The little boy's body made no noise when it landed on the ground, and the figure paid it no mind as it stepped into the hallway and slipped towards the parent's room. It wondered what was making the parents scream, as the cat surely could not have been done yet. The door to the master bedroom was open, and when it stepped in, it paused yet again. A male in a white hoodie was standing over the parent's dead bodies, laughing manically until it heard the thing behind him. He whipped around and smirked when he saw the human standing in the doorway, watching his movements with calculating eyes.
When the person didn't scream, he frowned beneath his carved smile. He'd have to fix that. He took a step forward when the person just vanished. They were there one moment and gone the next, as if he was simply a hallucination dreamt up by the twisted and bloodied male. A scowl crept up his face, but it was soon replaced with surprise when the person was suddenly right in front of him, mere centimeters away. He stumbled back, yelling out "What the fuck!"
The person leaned forward and studied the male. He had two cuts at the end of his lips, no eyelids, and overall looked pretty scary. That is, he would look scary if the figure could feel fear. Behind him the cat waltzed into the room, eyeing the situation before leaping onto the shoulder of the figure. The male growled, "GO TO SLEEP!" He lunged forward with the knife aimed downwards, ready to stab the figure.
The knife hit empty air when the person, along with the cat, disappeared once again. The male snarled. "Where the fuck did you go?!" A clawed hand flew forward from the shadows and knocked the knife out of his hand, sending it clattering to the wooden floor. Before he could turn around, he was picked up by the hood of his sweatshirt. The master bedroom melted away and the male found he was in the jaws of some... creature, and out in the storm. He snarled and twisted in the jaws of the shadowy monster, but a single growl was enough to set him straight. Instead, he chose to simply glare ahead, flinching slightly whenever the heavy rain hit his eyes.
Claws clacked against the sidewalk as they ran down it, slipping from shadow to shadow with the male bumping against the creature's sturdy chest every other step. The neighborhood reached its end and the distance between the houses dwindled before there were no houses at all. They were in the woods now, and if possible, it seemed and felt even darker than when they had been on the street. The shadows of the forest twisted like vines and flickered whenever a flash of lightning briefly lit up the forest. The beast carrying the male made no noise at all as it flew through the forest, dodging trees and ducking beneath low branches that hung with heavy and water logged leaves.
And just as fast as he had killed the couple, he was hitting the forest floor with a rather painful grunt. He glared and stood up, but stopped as soon as he saw where he was. Beside him, the tall creature stood on all fours, the spines on its back shifting with amusement as it observed him with glowing (e/c) eyes. And in front of him stood a mansion.
