If I cry myself to sleep at night, will this lovely man come back? Can I fix what has been broken? No. No it can't be. The clatter of thunder outside my window and pots and pans downstairs startles me, but I won't let the noise get to me. Although I don't believe so, maybe one of the lightning bolts hitting my window will eventually reveal the man. Of course not, my luck has never been as good as this. My mother's screams towards my little brother are heard throughout the house. I've gotten used to the idea of my brother being beaten every night. At least it's not me, right?
As I suspected when I had first heard the screams, the smacks and slams came soon after. But what I was about to hear was going to break my heart.
