From Gilbert's POV:DEMON!" A crowd roared behind me.
At that moment, I felt as if I had been drenched in ice. My stomach dropped. and a shiver raced its way across my back as I continued to stumble my way panicked through lush overgrowth and over large protruding tree roots.
In my hurried panic, my muscles burning from every agonizing step I took , and my instinct to keep running, overlapped the knowledge that the path ended right then and there.
With adrenalin still pumping through my veins, I prepared to make a hurried jump over a small rocky ledge and onto the pebbly bank of a small creak.
Stupid.
My foot slipped on a patch of loose mud shooting it over my head jerking my body into an arc like shape, leaving me suspended in the air for just a moment.
Just a moment.
I let out a shortened cry before plummeting several feet to the hard ground below.
My accident seemed to be moving in slow motion.
*Snap!*
I felt the back of my head hit something hard and wooden.
My vision blurred and became splotchy.
Damn Gil.. not good.
The force of the impact nearly snapped my spine.
The remaining air I had in me was let out in a single gasp, leaving me rasping on the ground like a fish.
My vision spun round and around like a wheel giving me the urge to vomit. I chocked down my bile, and with the
the remaining energy I had, flipped myself over face down.
I took in shuddering breaths, tasting the creak's neutral bank and the strong smell of early spring.
My breath was slowly, but surely returning to my ragged lungs, helping my vision to become much cleaner. I could make out the outline of a large tree stretching out over the bank, its roots creeping through the eroded clay of the ledge.
I fell... from up there....
I tilted my head to look upwards, bearing the sudden overwhelming surge of nausea, to see the roots above me too. They were from another tree, and cascaded into a sort of thin loose net, completely surrounding me in a wooden cradle.
I laughed a little.
Bastards... Come find me now...
I grinned, stretched my arm out to grab hold of small root sticking out from a patch of stones.
"WHERE DID THE DEVIL GO THIS TIME!"
I froze instantly. Hand still reaching for the stick.
"I SWEAR I'MA KILL HIM THIS TIME."
No no no no no...
I heard the crunching of boots and low quick breathing directly above me.
I held my breath, slowly drawing my arm back to my side as quietly as humanly possible.
Don't look down, don't look down, don-
"FOUND HIM BOSS!"
DAMN YOU!
My blood turned to ice as I heard someone jump from the ledge and onto the rocky part of the bed.
"Quit a jump there." Someone said. "Be careful." "Here, let me help you."
I Closed my eyes.
Maybe if I pretend i'm dead...
Someone poked me with something sharp. A knife probably.
I held my breath. Holding as still as possible.
*Yank*
I felt someone forcefully grab my ankle and drag me across the bed to the creak's edge.
I winced into the ground as my face was drug across the small sharp stones, I let my arms be drag behind me, creating the illusion that I was completely limp.
"Oi...Is he even alive?"
The man holding my ankle, let it fall back into the sift dirt of the creak's bed.
"Only one way to find out."
I heard the sicking sound of a blade drawn from its sheath.
Everything went still.
The birds, the rustling of the spring fir's, to the gurgling and rasping sound of the creak.
My hearing was focused on the footsteps approaching me.
No no no no... what did I ever do?! Why does this have to be my fate?" Please God help me.
The footsteps paused.
I opened one eye, daring not breath.
*BAM!*
The pain was almost to much.
I felt something wooden slam in between my shoulder blades.
*Crack*
My mouth hung open in shock.
"Yeah... He's alive alright." Someone said.
The same person grabbed my tunic and forcefully flipped me over.
At first, all I saw was the pale blue wisps of the sky, before several dark figures moved to block it.
One of them was much younger than me I noticed.
I stared at them, and they looked back.
I refused to let myself be overcome with fear.
I forced a small smirk.
"If... y-your going to kill me.... make it quick..." I rasped through my dry throat and chapped lips.
A few of them smiled. Others simply shrugged.
I took a long breath and held it.
One of them raised something high in the air, and I closed my eyes quickly. Squeezing them shut tightly.
My body braced for impact. Tensing up instantly.
No tears... straight through the heart... it's all going to be over."
I heard the sword make a slicking sound. I heard it.
Then I felt it.
It wasn't even near my heart.
Damn you...
The sword was found, buried deeply in my left side.
I clenched my teeth so hard that it felt as if they would crack.
No... don't scream... your better than this Gil... don't cry... don't...
A single tear streaked down the side of my face.
I listened to the crunching of footsteps as they turned to leave.
Damn...Damn....DAMN! DAMN YOU!
"DAMNIT!" I screamed "DAMN YOU ALL!" My throat burned. "COME BACK HERE AND FINISH ME OFF!!!"
I heard someone stop, but than continue walking.
....
I listened carefully.
I guess they up and left you huh Gil...
My vision blurred as I looked at the cause of my death. It glinted as the sun made its way overhead, peaking out from behind the clouds.
I heard the flapping of small wings.
Something small landed on my chest, it's little feet softly making its way across my tunic toward my face.
It felt like a songbird.
"chirp chirp..."
I looked down with my eyes since I was to weak to lift my head.
A songbird alright, and a strange one at best. It was covered in yellow feathers head to toe.
I sighed and looked back up at the sigh. The pain had left me awhile ago, but every time I moved, the foreign object scrapped my insides.
It probably went all the way through, Gil.
I coughed a little and winced.
I felt something warm creep it way across my chest.
I closed my eyes.
Pretend its just water Gill...
The bird flew up startled to rest on the hilt of the cross like handle bars of the sword.
I tried opening my eyes, but realized that I was to tired even to do that.
I shut them for the last time.
My breathing was slowing without me even noticing.
Hurry up... I thought.
I fell asleep, drowning in the sounds of soft chirping and the warmth of the sun's rays.
Why do I feel so strange?
.
