How it all began.

Okay. So, my name's Lilith. I'm eighteen and from Minnesota. My life wasn't easy from the beginning. It sucked quite a bit. My mom wasn't there to teach me whatever mothers teach their daughters. But I knew I was different. I knew I wasn't like all the other kids. But I'll start off from that day my life changed.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was a normal day at school. Everyone was waiting to leave. There was tension in the halls from all the highschool drama. I was walking through the hall to the last class of the day, when a small group of preppy girls stopped me. One stepped foward, which was obviously the leader of this pack of wolves.

"Where do you get those clothes? Off the dead bodies of the homeless?" she laughed at her remark and the other girls snickered behind her.

"uh.. well.. Who did your makeup? The clowns at the circus?" After I said that, people slowly gathered around us. The girl, of whom I insulted, was named Valerie. She was one of the "popular" girls at the school. She stood there, jaw open, staring at me. The hall was decently quiet.. I knew something bad was about to happen. Valerie stepped foward and tossed her purse and phone to her group of friends and turned to me, slapping me. Out of shock, I stood there and she did it again.. The group gathered around us started chanting "Fight! Fight! Fight!" What? No, I didn't want to fight? That wouldn't resolve anything.. Valerie proceeded to slap me and she scratched my cheek. I knew I had to do something, so I kicked her legs out from under her and punched her once, knocking her out. The group gathered around went silent and I could hear a few "oooo"s in the crowd.

As quickly as it stopped, a teacher pushed their way through the crowd and gazed upon the scene. Valerie got sent to the nurse and I was sent to the principles office. Go figure.

"You know why you're in here. Lilith, you can't keep getting into fights. It solves nothing, and you know that."

"I know, Mr. Fredrick.. But she started it. I was just walking down the hall and they surrounded me. What else could i do?"

"You could've called for a teacher. Why didn't you do that?"

"Because I know they wouldn't have helped. It would've made it worse. Off school grounds, I'm just a target. That's why I never go anywhere."

"You know that's not true. The teachers here care about each and every one of you kids. But if that's what you think, I can't change your mind. Just know, if you have a problem, come to me and I'll do my best to fix it. Now, I have to send you home for fighting. You're suspended for a few days. Now, I'll just call your father-"

"NO. I'll walk home. It's just two miles away. Thank you, Mr. Fredrick. I'll see you in a few days."

I proceeded out the office door and walked past the nurses door, seeing Valerie sitting on the bed. She saw me and shot me a dirty look. I walked towards the front doors and left. I was about halfway home when I got an uneasy feeling that I was being watched. I looked around and started to walk faster. It felt like someone was behind me, so looked back to see if I was being followed. There was a man leaning on a tree a good distance from me, so I turned and started to sprint. I could hear steps behind me so I ran as fast as I could. My house came into view and I pulled my keys out of my pocket and ran to the door. I unlocked it and slammed it shut, locking it behind me. I sighed in relief and went to the kitchen. There was a note on the fridge.

"Lilly, I have to work late tonight, I won't be home until around 6 in the morning. Dinner's in the oven, it's your favorite. I love you, sweetheart! -Dad"
