This Hell Known as WAR
By Kimberly Conrady
In the silence of the night,
We stay up till half past three,
Knowing that just across the oceans
A blood red sunset is all our soldiers see.
At home, all we can do is hope and pray
That someday soon, this war will go away;
The family we love will be able to come home,
Away from the bloodshed seen everywhere they roam.
Once their day is over,
A few soldiers go home to rest.
The war is not yet over,
But these brave soldiers wear purple medals on their chests.
Suicidal bombings attacking at the base;
Many lives are taken, but one blew their own life away.
Years are passing by; what are we fighting for?
Many have forgotten the reason for this war.
Once this war is over,
Whenever that may be,
Don’t ask the soldiers about the stories they could tell.
They might just tell you how they fought in hell;
This hell known as WAR.
