6 Months Before
"Move" My sister mumbled as she shouldered past me. You could tell she was pissed. I walk slowly into my mothers room. "What's her problem?" I questioned. my mom simply sighed as she rubbed her fore and middle fingers in slow circles on her temples. "I told her about us moving." She took a deep breath and sighed. We both knew that my little sister Alex was not going to be happy. I on the other hand was happy to get out of the city. It had too many painful reminders of my father and his death. Being in this town and so close to where he died destroyed my mom even after these 4 years. My mom laid down before her shift at the hospital. We heard my sister slam the door and start her car. I walked out and did my chores, finishing in time for a new episode of 'The Walking Dead' it felt weird since Alex wasn't right by my side watching it with me. She seemed beyond angry. I don't understand why she was so upset. I liked the idea of a fresh start.
Alex was short for Alexandria Louise Lovett. She hated us calling her by her full name so we tried not to use it. Although when we fought I used it because it bugged her. She had long thick blonde hair, she stood at about 5' and she had dark skin. Her eyes were big and brown. If she wanted something she could trick you like a puppy. She was the really sporty one. She played Volleyball, Basketball and Softball. She just turned 16 and she is a sophomore. We live in Chicago. If people didn't know they would never think we were related for we look totally different. I have long and curly black hair that stopped at my bellybutton not straight. My eyes were vibrant sea green and I had ivory skin like my mom with bunches of freckles on my face. I'm 17 and will be turning 18 next month. I just finished my ACTs still waiting on my results, I run track and I am a cheerleader. Senior year starts next fall then I am off to college. But we are moving soon. Once my mom receives the phone call from the builders.
My mom walked out "I'm heading in to work, have your sister text me when she gets home alright?" My mother sighed looking out the window.
"I will mama. I love you." I replied
"I love you too sweetheart" She replied smiling, she leaned down and kissed my forehead.
I hear her car start and she honks as she pulls out of her driveway. I sat there still watching TV and working on bits and pieces of Trigonometry in between breaks.
Finally, the show ended. I looked at my phone and seen it said 11:06. I called my sister wondering where she was. She was gone for over an hour now. I decided to call her, but it went straight to voicemail. Her phone must have died. I sighed grabbing my books and walked out to the kitchen table, setting them down with a slam. I walk over to the fridge scanning it for good food that I didn't have to cook. I settled on a package of small carrots. I go to settle and work on my math. Since the house is so quiet I jumped at the sound of the phone ringing.
I slowly and carefully walked over to the phone. I looked at the clock; 11:15, who was calling this late surely they would know its a school night. I continued and picked up the phone.
"Hello?"
"Hi, Ms. Lovett?" A female voice answered
"This is her daughter she is at work right now, may I take a message."
"Actually you may want to get ahold of your mom and come to Mercy hospital, im afraid there has been a terrible accident involving a teenage girl in a White Chevy Truck."
I gulped... that was my sisters truck.
