Ophelia's P.O.V
They never tell you how difficult it is to lose a loved one, especially when it's your parents. I was only thirteen when I lost my mum and dad. Fortunately for me, when they died a close family friend named Marcus was able to take me in, and I've been living with him since, and now I'm seventeen now. A month or two after I moved in Marcus demeanor changed drastically. He went from being a fun care-free 6'4 teddy bear into a secretive, angered 6'4 beating machine. He blames me a lot for the death of my parents. I know it isn't easy raising someone's child, more importantly when they were like family to you. Raising a girl isn't the easiest thing in the world, especially when the girl is just barely a teenager. Even though I look nothing like my mother, apparently I have the same personality as her. In all actuality of the situation, I have not told anyone what happens behind closed doors only because I wouldn't have any other place to go. If you're wondering what happens behind closed doors, just imagine a 4'8 girl with a bunch of bruises. I'm only telling you some of my current situation, so you understand is currently happening. The rest of the information will be divulged at a later time.
"Ophelia, how many times do I have to tell you that I want dinner done before I come home from work?!" Marcus yelled in my face. I whimpered and replied softly, "I'm sorry, I was really busy trying to clean up the apartment and do my homework and I forgot about dinner." Have you heard the saying if looks could kill? I'm pretty sure that I would be dead due to the expression on his face. He pulled me up from the floor, which I was curled up in a ball, by my hair and started walking down the hallway. "I don't want to hear your measly excuses Ophelia, I want food on the table in an hour. If it's not done within the hour, I'll make sure you'll regret your entire existence." He practically threw me onto the kitchen floor. As, he walked away, I heard him mumble, "Dear goddess, I hope I made the right decision to do this to Ophelia." I shrugged it off and chalked it up to him being extremely strange, ever since I came to him.
I scrambled to get up and start making dinner. Luckily, when it comes to food, Marcus isn't a very picky person with it. I made the simplest meal that was in the small, rundown apartment, we were living, and I decided to make spaghetti. Lucky enough for me, Marcus didn't come out at all during the time I was making dinner, as he usually does. While I was making dinner, I was able to do some of my homework. All my classes are honors courses. Yes, I'm a bit of a nerd. There is nothing wrong with that. Unexpectedly, as I finished up my homework and dinner, Marcus came out of his room. The way he looked could tell a story. He seemed to be distraught about something and as additionally, he also looked like he was crying. He walked into the kitchen and grabbed the plate I had to put his dinner on. Surprisingly, he grabbed the plate gently and said in a soft whisper, "Ophelia, I'm terribly sorry for the pain and anger I have caused you over the past four years. It wasn't right of me to do at all, but it was necessary for me to do what I did towards you. It made you tougher as a whole but it also made you into an understandable person. Those qualities are that you acquired are what are going to be useful in the coming future. I wish I could tell you more and be less confusing, nonetheless what you will find out cannot come from me. It is not my place as a protector to you to tell you what is going on." With that he put the plate away and walked out of the kitchen and into his room. As intelligent as I am, this seriously confused me. I had so many questions running through my head. What does he mean by "protector of me"? What does he mean by the "qualities" that I have developed will assist me in the future?
My whole life I've known the man and this is one of the rarest times of all that I have actually been confused by the guy. Barely an hour ago, he was in my face about how I hadn't made something to eat for him and now he's apparently "sorry" for what he has done to me. I don't know whether or not he what he said truly genuine. I slowly walked out of the kitchen and down the hall to his room. Yes, I'm going to be nosey okay? I have the right to be, since I live here. I leaned my ear against the door and tried to listen to see what was going on in his room. Fortunately, Marcus was having a conversation with someone on the phone. He didn't really seem to be talking but more so listening. I was able to hear him say, "She doesn't know anything about her actual past and who her real family is Lucian. Lea-belle and James made sure of it. Plus she was too young when the king and queen asked them to take her away until she was ready." He grew quiet, I could only guess this guy Lucian was saying something to Marcus. "Lucian, we all know that she will find out soon enough. We cannot rush anything. I don't want to be put in the position of having her hate my guts for the rest of our lives. You know that would kill me if she did. All I can do is promise that she can find out piece by piece. Ophelia, ugh, I mean Scarlett is a brilliant girl. She will more than likely figure it out before her birthday. I'm sure she was and still is confused in regards to what happened not even fifteen minutes ago." He grew quiet again, then all of a sudden laughed and said, "Lucian why would that ever cross your mind? I would never bring someone of that profession in this house with Scarlett in this dump of an apartment. But anyway I was being a total jerk to her when I first walked into the door and then all of a sudden, I came out of my room very apologetic, which I truly am. You see where her confusion would come into play. Anyway, I better get off the phone and go check on her and make sure she is either in bed or doing her homework, which I have no clue how to do. Goodbye, Lucian."
