Chapter 1
"Hey everyone come down to the kitchen, we have news!" Mom hollered throughout the house. The last time they had 'news' mom was pregnant, please lets not make that happen again. So far I can remember 5 of the we have news, baby news, and I'm not ready for another. Slowly coming into the kitchen I see I'm not the only one dreading what's coming next. By looks on my brother's faces, excluding the three younger boys, they expect the baby news too. What surprises me though is that Harry, Toby, John, and Dustin are all here too. By the looks of it they have no idea what's going on.
"Ok so since you're all here I'm going to cut straight to the chase," my mother continued looking kind of worried.
"Um well... We're moving!" All around the room eyes become the size of saucers and all the boys start talking all at once.
"Why... But I'm happy here... Mommy... Where are we moving to?" All the questions swirling around me in a mess, my parents looking just as sick as me. Suddenly I hear baby Oaks crying, oh the poor baby has no idea what's happening. Looking around I see no one else has heard him yet, so I stand up to go sooth him.
"Max. What do you think?" All eyes turn towards me, ugh I knew I shouldn't have stood up. Being the only girl of 13 children is hard, especially when you have a family like mine.
"Um well actually, I think it sounds like a great idea." All around the room mouths drop. Knowing me they probably expected me to fight it the most, I hate changes. But there's something I hate just a little bit more. That's being known as the Mattins girl, or 'place name here's' sister. I am my own person and with this move I could prove it.
"Um, well Oak was crying so I'm just going to go get him." I ramble as I run out of the room.
Once inside Oaks nursery I see that he dropped his Stuffy, or at least that's what he calls his stuffed teddy bear.
"Oh Oaky, you dropped Stuffy. Here I'll get him." I say reaching to grab the bear, and then grabbing the sleepy baby. Sitting down to sooth him back to sleep I start singing him back to sleep.
"I love the mountains, I love the rolling hills.
I love flowers, I love the daffodils.
I love the fireside when all the lights are low.
Boom di otta, boom do otta"After one round of the song he was happily sleeping again. Quietly slipping out the room, I nearly get knocked over by a fuming Chris.
"Watch out pipsqueak, I have to go pack for our move. Since you didn't even try to stop it." He says scowling at me.
"You know if you would've said you did want to move they wouldn't be having us move. They do anything for you." Pushing past me he goes into the room he shares with Tim. They're twins, identical twins. Most people can't tell them apart, but being a year younger than then its not hard for me. They both have blonde hair with curls that make you think of the beach, and pale blue eyes. Only Tim is half an inch taller than Chris and Tim is way nicer.
"Don't worry about him kid, he's just upset because Marlie just agreed to go out with him and now he can't date her." Tim says coming up the steps to his room.
"How's Oak I heard him crying but you jumped up before I even got the chance." Tim was a big softy for his younger siblings, so naturally he'd worry about Oakland.
"He dropped Stuffy. Now if you don't mind I'm going down to talk to mom. Night bubba." I say slipping around a very tired looking Tim and heading down the stairs. Its nearly 10o'clock I wonder if mama's still awake.
"Mama are you down here?" I whisper since I know most of the boys are asleep now.
"Oh yeah darling, I never got to finish talking to you about the move. Here come sit with me for a few." She says softly while patting the spot on the couch next to her.
"Baby girl we're moving in two weeks, and not like down the road. Like across the states." I look at her in disbelief. My mother, a women who's starting to age, is up rooting her family and moving 9 of her children across the US. How could this be happening?
"Where are we moving to? Why?" I say with a dry mouth. I thought we would be just moving across town or into a new school district not a new state.
"Well we're moving to Virginia you'll like it there baby. Your dad got a new job offer way better out there and we have to go as soon as possible." She looks at me with two pale blue eyes. I know there's no going back now... We're moving.
~ Ok so this is just the first chapter and its kinda dry but don't worry it'll get better much much better. Right now the Mattins live in California, i.e. the beach look of the twins. BTW if you haven't figured out Max is a girl ik I chose a weird name for a girl but hey she has 12 brothers she fits in somewhere.
