Diaper Empire

One thing that I've learnt in my entire twenty two years of existence is that I hate choices. The whole prospect of giving up on one thing to pursue the other is beyond me. As we grow up we are forced to make a lot of choices. From your favorite color to the field you want to major in, each decision is life changing. Bringing in some equally challenging consequences.

I remember when I had to choose one of my friends over the other, it was devastating. I didn't really know who to pick since I barely knew the entire story. So I did what a reasonable person does, I chose none and remained neutral. Six years later, the two are dating now, while me? I remained the 'ex-best friend'. I hated choices then and the magazine article I was holding now just added fuel to my hatred.

''Don't let your sugarbumpkins lose her sugar. Buy Pampy diapers'. As their tagline states Pampy diapers continues to be one of the best selling brands in the world. With their specialized staff and dedicated scientists Pampy comes up with the best formulas that keep your baby healthy and happy. The Owner Mr. Kempton has recently been ranked 36 in the Forbes most influential people list. The new deal with Japan not only spreads the multinational brand even further but allows Mr. Kempton to invest in 13 new petrochemical projects. If all goes according to the inside sources, Kempton co. are set to make 24.8 million dollars annually...'

I quit reading the damned article when the numbers crossed the hundred mark. Don't get me wrong I'm not jealous; rather I'm very happy for my dad's accomplishments. When he was my age perhaps even younger, dad had firmly set his name in the market and made his first million, since then the man never looked back. Although my dad making me read this article while trying to control a smile is quite unnerving. Let's be real, he might be a millionaire, but when it comes to me he can be the most embarrassing yet loving dad the world has ever seen.

"Dad I don't get why you're showing this to me? I mean its great news but asking me to cancel my trip and then showing me this makes no sense."

My dad finally broke into a grin " Haylie I'm just showing you the things that you will have to take care of once I retire and judging by my silly chest pains, it seems sooner if not ever."

Wooah old man, say what? "You mean me? Take care of all of this?" I said waving my arms all over the place, the magazine falling onto the floor of my dad's office.

"Yes since you're my only child and might I add a very well educated and responsible one. I don't see why you're so surprised. I did make this empire so that I could tend to you and your mother's needs, but once I'm gone, who's going to take care of you. You must be a survivor." He said seriously.

"Dad I know you and I know what you're trying to do here. All this emotional talk is going to get you nowhere. I think I made it very clear that I've always wanted to open a theme park. One where money is not a barrier, where families unite and people forget about everything and have a good time"

My dad finally cracked his convincing barrier and laughed "Okay kiddo you got me. I didn't think you would stick with that dream of yours. Seriously you came up with that when you were six. You're twenty two now, please start thinking rationally now."

This annoyed me, my dad still thought I was his little girl and didn't bother taking me seriously. "Well I'm proud to say that I stick with my decision of a theme park. I want to build brand just like you did, might I add of diapers. At least I'm going for a park."

Before my dad could reply his phone rang. "This conversation is not yet over Haylie. I want the best for you, you know that right?"

I nodded.

"Good see you at home. Love you."

"Love you, dad"

And with that I walked out of his office, with a new set of choices in my mind. So much for a holiday.
