Hey guys, so this is my first fanfic....let's just see how this goes. And since it's exactly 12 days till Christmas(I'm a nerd, i know) this story has a holiday theme to it
I don't own Dan or Phil and all that jazz
Dan Howell liked to sing.
It shouldn't have been a surprise considering his talent at the piano, but he just didn't know he had it in him. And it wasn't like he was bad at it, he was in fact really good. His voice was deep, had a rough edge to it and could do some serious belting(kinda like Scott's voice, for all you PTX fans). If Dan ever sang to that volume. He never had the courage to go up there and, as his former choral teacher would say, shine bright. He would always keep his singing to himself, only humming along to music, occasionally singing a few words. He would especially, never sing out loud while his Youtuber friends were around. He never knew what they'd think. Especially Phil
Phil Lester liked to sing.
He had no idea where this inner talent came from. Maybe his lessons with Carrie had paid, maybe it came from years of singing in the shower(he highly doubted that one). It just rose from within. While his voice was deep like Dan's, it was also soft and melodic. It could practically lure the fiercest of people. If Phil actually sang to people. He would never in a million years be able to sing in front of people. He thought that they would judge him, especially his fans and he didn't want the unnecessary attention. He always made sure he was totally alone before breaking into his favorite songs. Even alone from his best friend Dan.
Dan and Phil kept the fact that they could sing to themselves. They never told each other fearing what the other might think. They would sometimes catch each other humming or singing softly, but wouldn't say anything. If they heard each other singing in the shower, Phil would shrug it off whereas Dan would flat-out deny it. Even in their videos, if they randomly burst into song they would make sure to sing terribly. But, even while hiding it they oh-so desperately wanted to tell each other. The thought of keeping a secret as trivial as that from Dan made Phil sick inside. And Dan didn't think he could lie anymore. He was sure he would slip up. He just didn't think it would be that one day.
Dan was busy in his room finally editing his latest video, after a couple of weeks of putting it off.He was in his "editing mode" which meant he was completely unaware of everything around him, including himself. So when a song popped into his head, naturally, like all human beings, he began to hum. When that went on for a while, he began to sing softly, not knowing what he was doing. Gradually, his volume increased, the lyrics now being able to be heard.
Silent night
Holy night
All is calm
All is bright
Round young virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
All the while, Phil had been carrying the laundry up to their rooms when he stopped short, hearing something truly amazing. The 28 year-old had caught Dan singing, once again. Now, he could just walk away, knowing if he confronted Dan, the 24 year-old would deny it. But Phil thought that this charade between them had gone far enough. He put down the laundry basket he'd been holding and sat down, leaning on Dan's door. He closed his eyes, taking in the endearing sound of the younger Youtuber's voice.
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
I was now or never. Phil took a deep breath, and sang.
Silent Night
Holy Night
All is Calm
All is bright
Round young virgin mother and child
Holy infant so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
Sleep in heavenly peace
Upon hearing another voice made Dan jolt out of his state of concentration. He was going to tell whoever that was to shut up, but something about the voice made him stop. It was sweet and enduring.
Phil
Dan saved his work and sat in front of his door, listening.
Phil's voice reminded Dan of his mum's, when she used to sing to him before bed. It had gave him this warm feeling and had made him feel safe, like all his fears and insecurities were being melted away in a blanket of emotion. Dan sighed thinking of the memory. He opened his mouth and poured out his soul into the chorus.
It was like magic. The perfect blend of highs and lows with the right amount of passion, and you had something truly breath-taking. Nothing else mattered but the song. The moment would have been perfect, if the boys still weren't sitting on opposite sides of Dan's door.
Silent night, holy night
Silent night, holy night
Silent night, holy night
There was the sound of a clicking lock. Then a door creaking open. There appeared the grinning face of danisnotonfire, his face glowing as he sang the last lyric.
Night

Also, thank you to my practically twin itskitkatkatrina for sort of leading me to do this and to all you writer....people for giving me the idea for this story. And I know this song (above) isn't really a song that Dan and Phil would sing, but like I said, I'm obsessed with Pentatonix! So...I'm gonna internet now.
