The day of the Quidditch match, I had woken up and decided to stay in bed all day. Then I remembered what had happened last night and I couldn't help sitting straight up in bed and stretching, a big grin on my face. It was one of very few times I was a morning person.
I got up and threw open the curtains on the window, before opening the window too and enjoying the fresh air while trying not to shiver in my thin pyjama top and shorts."Nnnng, close it..."
Mia groaned from under her covers. She was definitely not a morning person; in all of the 6 years I'd known her the only days she'd get up early were when she had to, for lessons, and on Christmas.I grinned at her devilishly and left the window open. It was really stuffy.
A muffled "I hate you" came from under her duvet.Chloe sat up in her own bed and rubbed her eyes, yawned, and pulled Jess's hangings open, revealing her with her hair in a messy bun as she scrawled in a book. Seeing we were watching her, she shut the book and stuffed it under her pillow embarrassedly.
"Don't worry Jeth. We won't read your thecret diary. We rethpect your privathy." I chuckled, putting on a fake lisp like one of those characters in her favourite movie. She rolled her eyes at me and got out of bed, stretching as tall as she could (adding a few inches to her short 5'3" frame).
"I'm gonna get ready, we've got a half day today right?" I queried. Mia nodded and sat on the edge of her bed, nodding off.
By the time I had finished changing into my robes, Mia had finally got up, brushing her teeth as she paced the room in her t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms. Chloe and Jess were both ready, just waiting for Mia. I sighed, pointing at an invisible watch and willing Mia to hurry up. Eventually, ten minutes later she finally finished, at around 8:46. We sprinted through the common room and downstairs, trying to get there at a reasonable time so we could eat something in the 8 minutes we had before lessons started at 9. I had Potions first, with the Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws.
After breakfast, Mia and I sat on a table with Ammi and Lana, the latter of which was unusually quiet and subdued. I cocked my head to one side and looked at her questioningly.
"You okay?" I asked uncertainly. She waved me off condescendingly and turned to the front. Mia, who was having a nap with her head resting on her elbow, opened one eye and raised an eyebrow at Lana, who was glaring into space. Rude. Then I realised she was glaring sadly at Eric's back.Later, while we were brewing our potions, Ammi explained it to me in a hushed whisper.
"Eric's avoiding her. Not only that, apparently he's going out with Tori. Yeah, while he's going out with Lana." She added, seeing my disbelief. I continued stirring my potion; seven stirs clockwise and one anticlockwise.
Eric didn't strike me as a player, I thought to myself as I stirred. Especially not the kind of guy to go out with someone like Tori; she was so... loud. I just don't think she and Eric would get along as well as Lana and Eric. I mean, Lana's loud too, but she and Eric have way more in common.Deciding not to stick my nose in it, I finished my potion in silence, occasionally giggling at Mia and whispering instructions to others. After Professor Hubble had collected our potion samples and let us go, I walked to CoMC on the other side of the school grounds, saying bye to Mia who was walking to Charms with Lana and a few others.
I couldn't wait for Care of Magical Creatures to be over.
I mean, I like the subject, and the teacher (Professor Weasley) was pretty cool, but I guess that getting near enough to a Krup in order to cut its nails was just not my cup of tea. Most of my class, me included, had sustained numerous scratches that bled through our robes, which was why I was glad when the bell rang and we were allowed to pack up and walk back to the castle for Transfiguration.
We were doing a practical lesson, which gave me a chance to drop an inconspicuous note saying sorry and explaining the whole thing on Will's desk as I walked past.
