"Your roomate?" I asked dumbfounded.
"Yes , I will help you find a job , meanwhile you can help me with rent and I don't have to live alone anymore."
"Are you sure? I mean it is Oxford. I will have to move across the world, " I always exaggerate. Some bad habit of mine.
Sarah just rolled her eyes and continued. "Yes , I am sure. It was the greatest idea I have had in a very long time." she pleaded.
"It is not like I have any other options. " I thought out loud, staring ahead, thinking.
"Is that a yes?"
"Yeah , I guess so."
"Yay!" Sarah jumped up and did some happy dance. For an exotic dancer that was pretty basic.
"Just as long as you never do that again , " I said laughing.
She stuck out her tongue like a preschooler. "So , when do you have to be out?"
"By the end of the week , " I nonchalantly replied.
"That is very short notice. How 'bout we get cracking? " she looked around in horror. "What should go with us ?"
"My closet. "
"What? " she exclaimed.
" I am sure a few other things could go with but the main furniture and the expensive things should stay behind."
"Well it makes our task at hand much more easier. How about we move tonight? " she asked brightly.
"Sure , I guess the sooner the better."
We started packing. I had no idea how much clothes I had until now where it had to fit only into four suitcases. Sarah tried to convince me to leave a few things behind but I would not hear of it. So there we sat on the suitcases trying to zip them up.
"You should just leave a few things," Sarah insisted trying to pull the zip. "This thing is going to strip and then you'll have to leave a whole suitcase's things behind." She frowned.
"Fine , " I gave in but carefully selected the things that had to be left.
"That's not gonna make the cut," she pulled at pieces of clothing and raising it. "I can't believe you want this to come. It is ugly. No worse than that. It actually makes me nauseous. " She gestured to a green wooly dress.
"Hey , that is designer!"
"Designer or not , we will leave this."
After arguing what to take or leave we finally hauled my suitcases to my front door.
A knock sounded on my door and I gave Sarah a quizzical look.
"I texted my friend I told you about. He will be helping us move you stuff. "
" Oh. "
I opened the door. And what stood there was definitely unexpected.
Wow. Wow. Wow.
The 'friend's ' hair was shortly shaved. Square jaw with cleanly shaven cheeks. He wore a white t-shirt which was kind of transparent to show of his abs and just his beautiful body.
I sighed out loud. The guy got a faint grin on his face.
"If you would stop ogling , I could actually help you move," he suggested in a honey smeared voice which I could listen to for hours.
I didn't realise I had rested my head against the door but it quickly shot off and I stammered. Great , just great. Please do make a fool of yourself , Sophia.
"I-I w-wasn't ogling. I was just tired so I rested my head... Oh whatever ,are you here to help or not?"
He just laughed and stepped around me.
" Just these then..." but the I zoned out. His jeans just hugged his butt so-
"Sophia," Sarah waved a hand in front of my face.
" Huh , yeah. Um , just those, "I said shaking my head and luckily remembering his first few words. "Sorry , it's been a long day."
I heard Sarah grunting something under her breath and I shot her a look.
I scribbled a note and left it on the counter for the attorneys when we got my bags and locked the door. I will mail them the key when we get to Oxford.
We loaded all my bags in Gareth's Fortuner's trunk.
As we pulled from the curb , me sitting at the back, it started raining. Thank goodness we were already in the car. I don't exactly look very alluring with wet locks stuck to my face.
I stared out my window , feeling like I was in a movie. I have never done anything so impromptu. Suddenly sadness got to me. That was my home that I have just left. Unexpectedly a few tears leaked from my eyes. I quickly tried to cover it up by scratching my cheek. I never was a person for crying but these days I got emotional over anything. I just had to stop myself before I became a slobbering mess.
Before today everything just felt so surreal.
Now it is reality. Something I had to face sooner or later in my life.In the corner of my eye I could see Gareth often looking my way. Luckily my tears have been dried up.
I glanced his way and the corner of his mouth lifted a bit. I somehow found it comforting. Taking a deep breath, I settled back into my seat .
The drive took very long and I got at least a few hours of sleep in between.
When we came to a halt at a apartment building, it was way past midnight already. My neck felt very stiff from sitting in one position for a few hours. All of us were caught in our own thoughts as we took four of my suitcases and one of Sarah's up to the apartment.
Sarah was the first to break our silence. "I have a roomie now," she smiled brightly at me. She genuinely look happy so I tried saying , "indeed" as enthusiastically as possible.
Sarah walked in front of me to show me her living space. It was quite small but it had all the nessecities that one or two people needed.
The interior was to a minimum in beige and white with a few red and blue bits here and there. It gave it a coastal flair.
Adjacent the living room to the left was a open plan kitchen and a white washed table with four chairs probably served as the dining room. There was a small balcony with a few potplants and a small table with two chairs made of cast iron.
On our right was a smal hallway that led to three doors , which I assumed was two bedrooms and a bathroom.
"You really didn't turn out that bad after all," I joked.
Sarah laughed and showed me to my bedroom , the last door of the three.
Inside was a single bed with a white and beige duvet with three pillows: red , blue and white, to the right wall with a small nightstand with only a french-like lamp on it. The window was big and framed by white curtains on a silver railing.
On the left side of the room there was a white washed french styled closet and a small desk with a white wicker chair.
Over all, the room was beautiful.
"You are probably very tired. Tomorrow we will relax and the day after that we will start your job hunt. I hope you like it." She retreated out of the room and closed the door with a small thud.
"I love it," I said only to the universe that could hear me.
