Danielle's P.O.V.

I sat in English class doodling on my notebook.  'Wow, is this supposed to be a dinosaur or a piece of toast?' I think in disgust.  Mrs. Ruths galloped into the classroom almost as if she was a race horse.

"Hello, class!" She sang in her annoyingly chipper voice while a pale boy trailed in behind her.

He wore a semi-tight black shirt with gray baggy jeans.  Black hair hung in his face hiding his eyes.  'New student.' I roll my eyes, 'I don't understand why he would want to move here.'

"Class, this is Parker! Let's all give him a happy hello!"

"Hello, Parker." The class mustered together with a few stray greetings falling in suit, like the speakers weren't paying attention.

"You can take a seat next to Miss. Brooks right there." Mrs. Ruths pointed in front of me.

Parker lounged over to the seat, sitting down while at the same time dropping his bag onto the floor loudly.

The rest of the class I sat in silence listening to Mrs. Ruths rattle about something- I think it was Dickens?- and wishing the bell would ring.

The lunch room was just around the corner and I was about to be reunited with my best friend, and my boyfriend.  My best friend, Avery, was already sitting at our usual table her brown hair streaming down her back messily like usual with its blonde highlights standing out like traffic cones.  She was wearing a purple long-sleeve shirt and dark blue skinny jeans with converse.  One thing I loved about her is our share of style, plain and simple.

"Hey, Avery! Have you seen the new kid?" I take my usual seat in front of her.

"Of course! Everyone has been buzzing about him!" Her green eyes looked up at me excitedly.  "He is pretty cute, huh?"

"Avery." I give her a stern look.  "You know I am perfectly happy with Luke! How dare you even inquire that I might find any other guy attractive!" I say with mock dramatics.

"Danni, you know I don't think you and Luke are good for eachother.  How did you explain that bruise you had on your cheek last week? An accident in the hallway involving a bookshelf?"

I look down at the table, "Avery, I swear that's all it was.  Luke would never do that to me."

"Whatever you say."

I huff in frustration and pull out my lunch bag and bringing out a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

"Hello, ladies.  Miss me?" Luke takes his place next to me, setting his tray in front of him.

"Oh, boy, did we?" Avery remarks.

Luke only scowls at her.

I take a bite of my sandwich while I watch Avery throw icy glares to Luke who is being too oblivious or too stubborn to acknowledge.

I take a good long look at Luke while he uses his plastic fork to scrape around a little on the plate.  He has a very boxy face with indifferent gray eyes, and short brown hair.  He wasn't much taller than me, maybe about two inches taller.

"Luke, how is your mom doing?" I ask him with true concern.  His mother had come down with some sort of virus and has been bedridden for about a week now.

"Not really better, and not really worse.  She's still sitting in bed and occasionally having to jump out of bed to puke her guts out." He says.

"I'm really sorry.  Would it be okay if I dropped by your house today and brought over some food for you, and your mom, and dad?"

"Yeah, that would be cool.  I would love that." Luke gave me a heart-warming smile, which I gladly returned.

I look over at Avery and she had already eaten all of her food and was- hey! "Avery, you can't just steal other people's food!" I laugh as I rip my sandwich out of her hands.

"Youf weren't eatifng id!" She said with a mouthful of peanut butter and jelly.

"This is probably why you don't have a boyfriend!" I giggle.

I hear Luke mutter something under his breath followed by: "Uhm, excuse me Mr. Daniels?"

Luke looked up unexpectedly like Avery was not meant to hear what he had said.  "You're excused."

"Okay, listen up, buddy.  You have no right to insult me-" Avery started when Luke shouted in so they were both yelling at once.  I watch in disbelief, when in the corner of my eye, I see Parker sitting down at a table alone.

"You guys! Can you quit fighting already?!" I try to yell over them.  After a good minute of their solid arguing and me trying to break them up I finally got sick of them and decided I would just move seats.

'Parker is still alone... I could sit with him.' The idea comes into my head as quick as a lightbulb turning on.

I pick up my bags and walk towards Parker- Luke and Avery too caught up in arguing that they didn't even notice me leaving.

"Hey, Parker." I slide into a seat beside him.  "You sit in front of me in English, remember? I'm Danielle, some call me Danni."

He looked lost for words, his hair was still in his eyes, making me uncapable of telling his eye color.  "Hey, Danielle.  I'm Parker."

"Yeah, I know." I smile.

"Oh, yeah. So, not to sound rude or anything, what are you doing over here?" He looked down at the table.

"Those two idiots will not stop fighting, so I got fed up of it and left.  Simple as that.  I saw you here alone and decided I would come over and properly introduce myself."

Parker turned to look and find Luke and Avery fighting and turned back with a stern look.  "Cool."

"Yeah, so, why did you move here Parker? Why here in this boring old place?" I ask the first question that comes to mind.

"It doesn't really matter." The answer was short lived.

"Oh." Was my only response.  The rest of lunch we ate in silence until finally right before the bell rang Parker broke it.

"Don't make a habit out of this."  And then he was gone.
