It was my first day of school. My mom and I were heading to a room belonging to a Ms. Claudry. I hope I like her. I hope she likes me.
"Okay honey. School is fun! It's gonna be great! It's gonna be new and exciting and everyone is going to love you!"
"But Mommy, I want to stay at home!
With you!" I grabbed my mom's leg causing others to stare.Everyone apparently already went through this first day of school jitters experience in preschool. I didn't go to preschool.
"I know Lina, I know. But you going to forget all about me once you get in there and start making friends."
"Who needs friends, Mommy?" My mom stifled a laugh and fixed my shirt collar.
"Everyone needs someone to be there for them when it seems they are alone. Just to be there for you."
"But that's why I have you." My mom pursed her lips and smiled. She grabbed me for another hug. This one was longer, tighter, warmer.
I asked, "Are you gonna leave me here, Mommy?" She pulled from the hug and looked at me seriously. "Are you gonna leave like Daddy?" Tears started forming in her eye and her lip quivered, just like that night.
"No sweety. No. I'm coming back, okay? It's just a couple hours and I promise I will be back. I do. Do you believe me?"
I wasn't completely sure but I nodded my head anyway. She smiled and kissed my forehead giving me another hug for the millionth time that day. But I didn't mind.
We broke away and we both pulled ourselves together. We walked into the room. It was really perky. The bright colors made my eyes burn. There was cartoons of animals talking everywhere. Animals don't talk. Multicolored letters and numbers were on the rug covering the whole floor. They weren't even in order. These morons are suppose to teach me the basics?
My mom left me in the middle of the room to "mingle" and went to the teacher who was suppose to be Ms. Claudry to talk about me.
I saw groups of kids playing different games. There was one girl in the corner by herself. I went over to her. I tapped her shoulder and smiled. She was playing dolls. I loved dolls. This could work.
"What are you?"
Or not.
She looked so pissed off she could've thrown me across the room if she wanted.
She spoke again. "Well? I was playing dolls before you stunk up the air with your presence."
What? Where the heck did she get all that sass? And presence? What's that? Maybe I shouldn't have skipped preschool.
"Uh...I-I-I just wanted to play dolls with you. Yo-Yo-You looked lonely over here."
"Why are you stuttering? That's stupid."
Like you.
"Well don't just stand there. Either play or go away." I sat down next to her.
I realized how close I was and scooted over a bit. Maybe if I complimented her she would be nicer.
"I uh like your shoes. They glow."
"I know they glow, stupid. That's why I got them. Your shirt is stupid."
This girl is ruder than Daffy Duck. I oughta break those pigtails.
"Why do you say stupid so much, stupid? Don't you know any other words? And you know what? Your face is stupid, stupid!" She smirked. Not the reaction I thought I would get.
"We're gonna be good friends."
Ms.Claudry rang an annoying bell. "Come on, stupid!! It's snack time!!! Sit next to me!!"
My mom gave the pigtailed girl a death stare.
"Why did she just call you stupid? Do I need to do something?!"
"It's okay Mommy. She's weird. I call her stupid too."
"Why?"
"Because she is."
My mom just shrugged her shoulders and roller her eyes. She kissed me on my forehead and said that she loved me and left me. Just like Daddy.
I went over to the table to sit next to Stupid.
"You know, I have a name. Like, a real one! It's Lina."
"That's prettier than stupid. Mine's Daisy."
We smiled at each other. She pulled out a cookie from her back pack. I pulled out one too but from my house. She stared at my food. I glanced at hers. She finally spoke words.
"You should give me some stu- Lina."
"But you have a cookie too. And it's chocolate chip like mine!"
"Don't you think I know that? I brought it! Here."
She broke off half of her cookie and put it in front of me.
"Now you give me half of yours."
So I did. Then she connected the two halves, hers and mine.
Then she said "Now the cookie is whole. But part is you and part is me. Like us from now on. The other can't be whole without the other. Okay Bina?"
I looked at her cross-eyed.
"My name is Lina."
"But that's my nickname for you. Bina. Because I like beans, I like you, and it sounds like a bean. Bina!" I shrugged my shoulders and smiled.
"Okay."
•••••
"I can't believe we're in high school, Bina!!! I can't wait to punch a senior!"
My best friend will be in jail before she graduates.
"And I can't wait to talk to you through a jail phone behind glass!!" She rolled her eyes at me.
"Whatever. You'll be there with me too."
She had a point. If someone hurt her, they hurt me. I might be sweet now, but when I get mad, this duck becomes a dragon.
"Well right now, I can't wait for lunch! I'm starving!!!"We sat at a table with just us. We didn't know anyone. Yet. I was determined to meet new faces. But right now, I was content.
Daisy pulled out her lunchbox and I did too. We ate our lunch normally. We glanced at each other and smirked a weird smirk that would guarantee us no new friends if they saw it. She put her cookie up and so did I. We broke our halves and passed a half to each other. We put our cookies together and took a bite. We kept our smirks through the whole process.
"First high school Cookie Connect! This is definitely a photo-op!"
I loved pictures. I loved taking them, seeing them, but NOT being in them.
I took out my mini cam and snap a pic before a teacher saw. High school, here comes Laisy!

Trust me the story gets more exciting. At least I hope it will to you. Whoever is reading this. Probably no one. But yeah. Laisy is Daisy and Lina together. If it seems like it's going slow, the slow needs to be there. K. Thanks. Vote, comment, share, puke, whatever you wanna do.
