Pokemon to encounter:
Fletchling, Froslass, Starly, Zubat, Fennekin, Togekiss

In the quiet town of Camphrier, Fletchlings twittered on a window sill. Their noise woke the girl who slept just behind the glass. She attempted to lift her eyelids, but settled for lying in silent contempt, the morning glow still too bright for her sleepy eyes. The birds were cute, chirping and hopping playfully, but anyone knew better than to let the little fire birds play near the garden. Cal pulled a tangle of brown hair away from her face as she opened her window, "Shoo! Play somewhere else!" She waved her arms and the birds took flight, annoyed at the pyjama girl. A few patches of the garden began to smoke. She hated how the native birds smouldered the plants. At least in Snowpoint, the only birds were normal types. Even better, nothing ever caught fire. In the garden, frost crept out and covered the embers, putting them out. Cal turned to face a starkly white figure in the doorway, a bright red ribbon tied around her middle and blue frost along the edges of her cloak. "Thanks, Lucy" Cal said. Lucy stared at her in a friendly sort of way, though most people found Lucy unnerving. The froslass glided away, leaving a chill in her wake. As Lucy left, the morning routine began. "Caley! Breakfast will be cold if you don't come and help right now!" Her mum called from the hallway. Despite moving to the much warmer climate, it was still her way of saying 'good morning'. Cal quickly changed clothes and tied her messy hair back before making her way into the kitchen. "Good morning, Missy" her mother was pouring tea at the table, waiting for Cal.
"Mum, it's hot outside and you insist on drinking tea?" Cal laughed.
"What else would we have? It's called morning tea for a reason." She smiled at Cal, but her smile didn't last long as her eyes drifted to Cal's hair, "Caley! What did I say about brushing? You'll get it all chopped off if you're not careful!" Her mother huffed, chasing her back into her room with the hairbrush, the two of them laughing. Lucy watched them, a smile on her elegant, frosted face.

With her hair properly brushed, the three of them walked down Route 7. Sitting across the bridge was the breeder's house, where Cal's mother worked. A pale boy stood outside, "Tiffany! Caley! Great to see you!" He ran to them, "What are you doing this fine Saturday morning?"
"Caley is going to watch us work from now on, every Saturday. I think it's time she learned how to be a Pokemon breeder." Tiffany said.
"Every Saturday?" Cal wasn't pleased.
Tiffany turned to face her daughter, "Caley, we moved here because of breeding. You need a more hands on experience with Pokemon, and since your father and I don't want you battling, helping me at the breeder's house is a perfect opportunity." She had placed both of her hands on Cal's shoulders. Her eyes were looking for an agreement, so Cal nodded. She smiled and made her way into the house.
Lucy put an arm of comfort around Cal, the motion attracting a nervous glance from the boy. He did his best to ignore Lucy, following Tiffany inside. In the already blazing sun, Lucy's chill was a comfort.

"Cal, your first job will be to hatch these eggs. We don't have the money to afford a Flame Bodied Pokemon so you'd best take the bike and Lucy with you. " Tiffany dropped a hefty bag onto Cal's back, and pointed at an old bicycle by the door. "Have fun!" Her mother smiled, but she remembered something, the smile on her face replaced by a furrowed brow, "Oh, and Caley? Don't go near the Battle Chateau! That place may look like a daydream, but Pokemon battles are not something I want you to see. Come back if any of them hatch!" Her smile reappeared as she ushered her daughter out the door.

"Great... Now we're stuck with the boring job..." Cal hauled herself onto the bike and started moving. Her froslass glided along beside the bike making strange, musical sounds.
"Yeah, I know eggs don't hatch sitting around." Cal said in response to Lucy, "Hey, you came from a breeder's house, right?"
Lucy sang a higher pitched sound.
"At the same time as me? Mum never told me that. "
Lucy sang low.
"Woah..."
Cal slowed down at the sight of a statuesque building. It had only been a few hundred metres, but Cal was surprised how big it looked standing up close. The front doors were lavishly decorated, and the whole building had been built on the river. Enormous windows gave views of the riverside all the way around the chateau. Lucy gave a low warning sound, pulling Cal's eyes away from the beautiful building. She pulled herself onto the bike and they continued on. When they reached the end of the road, they were faced with the mouth of a cave. Beyond in the gloom, they could see rocks blocking their way. The froslass sang a fearful note, which echoed inside. Unseen Pokemon sang back in their haunting tones.
"Plus," Cal told Lucy with a shiver, "Caves are the homes of zubat hordes."
She nodded in agreement and they rode back the way they came, past the Battle Chateau, following the river past the breeders, over the bridge and back into Camphrier Town. Lucy circled the fountain, freezing the water. "I guess we just do laps." Cal laughed at Lucy as they left the town, back along route 7.
On their fourth lap, they passed the Battle Chateau again. An exhausted Cal slowed down to drink in the monument again, but a bump in the road startled her. She nearly fell off her bike, struggling with the very heavy bag on her back. Lucy started warning Cal and trying to pull her back onto her bike. "Lucy, stop! Look at this. " Cal pulled herself off the bike and pointed at the squirming bag. Inside, the eggs were moving constantly. One of them was making an incredible amount of noise. Cal picked it up and it began to move with even more energy. It cracked. The thick shell had ruptured with a snap, a small puff of heat struck her full in the face. In shock, Cal dropped the hatching egg with a squeal. Lucy quickly caught it, but soon water began dripping from her hands. The egg began to glow hot red and Cal could feel its heat. In moments, the egg broke apart with a burst of flame and a very small, reddish creature emerged. Cal snatched the hot Pokemon from Lucy's melting hands. The froslass readjusted her red bow and moved away from the fire type. Cal took a deep breath, looking at the strange creature.
"Well, at least now we can head ho-" Cal watched as the doors of the chateau began to open, falling silent. Two well dressed men walked out in deep conversation, one much older than the other. The two of them stopped their discussion to stare at Cal. Many emotions flickered on their faces. A girl sitting on the ground beside a rusty bike clutching a sack of eggs, drenched in sweat and water. Their confused, bemused eyes went from Cal to Lucy who, as a ghost type always seemed to frighten people. The scraggly hatchling made a strange squeak. It caught the attention of the younger man "Oh, a fennekin! You must be one of the bree-" his interest was stalled as his companion held up a hand.
"Son, let's go. " the older man said, bringing out a pokeball. A white bird flecked with blue and red burst from his hand. They mounted the togekiss and took flight in a rush of wings. Embarrassed, Cal shut the bag of eggs, threw it on her back and got on the bike. "Let's go home..."
