daniel crawled onto the bed and snaked his arms around joey's waist, resting his head on joey's chest. joey, however, did not move and kept his attention entirely on the book resting on his abdomen.

"i'm sorry," daniel whispered. "i took it too far."

joey sighed, yet remained motionless.

"dan, we cant keep fighting like this. i'm starting to think it's having an effect on christopher."

"i know, i'll go talk to him." daniel slowly slid off the bed, grunting as he did so, and made his way into the bedroom next to theirs.

joey laid the book against his chest and sighed heavily, rubbing his forehead.

suddenly, a knock could be heard at the door. joey put his book into a draw in his nightstand, swung his legs off the bed so he was in a sitting position and pushed himself up onto his feet.

opening the door revealed a pretty, yet timid looking girl. she could be no more than 16, joey thought. she looked up at him as if she were struggling to find the words to say.

"um, hi, are you lost?"

"this is number 64, right? anderson lane?" she asked nervously, quickly looking at the piece of paper in her hands, which showed a lot of evidence of being scrunched up and folded.

"yeah, why?"

"i'm here to see daniel preda," she stated. "i'm his daughter."
