Chapter 2

I am not religious .....I am Spiritual

Don't you just hate it when religious people throw their religious beliefs on you? Like I mean I believe in God and I'm talking about the God of creation who created the heavens and the earth, who created human kind in his own image and likeness, the God of Adam and Eve, the God of Abraham and all that good stuff. If you asked me why I believe in God I would simply tell you its because I know where my blessings come from and I can see no other God that would be so loving and magnificient in all his ways that he would love me unconditionally.

I mean some people worship the sun and maybe that's fine for them, maybe they appreciate the heat it gives to dry their clothes or maybe they just love getting a tan. Hey who am I to judge. Some people worship cows and goats and pigs and their entire damn barn yard and I guess that's fine for them. Maybe they find the need to give praise to those things because they think it's the reason for their survival or whatever but who am I to judge? That's what THEY choose to serve as their Gods and at the end of the day they are the only ones who will be held accountable for the lives that they chose to live but that's not me though.

Its fine to believe in whoever you believe in, we were given that choice when God placed that tree (the tree of knowledge – good and evil) in the garden of Eden, but don't go around throwing your faith in everyone's face. I mean don't get me wrong, the bible said to "make a joyful noise unto the Lord." I cant tell you what part of the bible that said that though.... But you get my point. So its fine to stand strong in your faith and to be proud to worship your God freely. Not everyone has that previledge to be able to worship and practice their faith openly so I mean if you live in a place where it's acceptable then by all means knock yourself out but just don't try to pressure people into believing what YOU believe in if they don't want to.

I was raised in the Catholc faith, so for a very long time and even to this day I sometimes find myself saying that I am a catholic.... I guess when you are raised a certain way you develop certain morals and values that stick with you throughout your life but when you reach a certain age where you can make decisions on your own and understand right from wrong or when you are able to assess situations and make your own assumptions about them without being persuaded or pressured by anyone to do so, you begin to look at things not from a perspective that was taught to you but rather from a perspctive of your own and so I no longer consider myself to be catholic, nor do I consider myself to be christian. As a matter of fact I don't find it necessary to classify, label or categorize my faith or religion. The most important thing is that I believe in God, a God that I believe is the reason for my existance and from whom my blessings and previledges come from and that's just enough for me in this life so it is what it is.

The entire world went into an uproar when Raven Symone, during her Oprah interview said that she didn't want to be labeled "Gay" or "African American," and for a minute I was like, "bitch you done lost your damn mind if you think that the black community is gonna let this shit slide, you wanna be considered as a human that just loves other humans well your human who loves other humans having ass won't be getting any love from the black folks for a very long time after this shit you done said. Hell, you'll be lucky if you're even welcome in the LGBT community after that interview." But then I thought about what she said some more and she actually makes sense.

I get where she was coming from. We are always quick to categorize ourselves.... and others are always quick to place us in a box like we are only supposed to fit into one facet of life but we fail to realize that we can and should be able to branch out and achieve as much as we possibly can. Just because I dance, should I only be considered to be a dancer? Just because I teach, does that only make me a teacher? Labels limit one's potential, it prevents you from being all that you are capable of being, it holds you back from trying to accomplish more because you settle only for that one label that the world or you have placed upon yourself, upon your life and that's not acceptable.. It shouldn't be acceptable and I totally agree with and relate to what Raven said. I mean I still throw a bit of shade like everyone else just for the fact that she said it, but I agree with her either way.
