‘August, I’m home!’ I said, after my writing class. ‘Lily? Will you come here? I need your help with June’s little monster!’ August yelled. ‘Where’s Rosaleen?’ ‘She’s at a cooking college, don’t you remember?’ ‘Oh, Right. I’m still not used to the concept yet.’ I went into the living room where August was. ‘Auntay Lilay!’ ‘Matthew!’ Matthew ran up to me and wiped snot onto my pants. ‘Will ya gemme a red icey?’ he cried. All I wanted to do was work on my writing homework. I looked at August and she mouthed ‘please?’ I sighed and said ‘Alrighty. Come on now.’ ‘YAY!’ Matthew squealed.
We walked hand and hand together down the street to the local mercantile. Matthew was just telling me about his day. ‘And then, Auntay Lilay, I fought orff da dwagon from Auntay August! I was so bwave!’ And in reply, I said, ‘Wow! You brave little rascal!’ It kept like this the whole way down. And then, I felt déjà vu. The tingle down my spine to the end of my fingertips. I saw a familiar blue pick up truck. We walked into the mercantile, and right in front of me, T-Ray and…a woman? I froze and stared at him until Matthew yelled, ‘OW! Lemme go Auntay Lilay!’. I looked down at my hand and released Matthew. I hadn’t realised that I was clenching his hand so tightly. And I wasn’t the only one who heard Matthew. T-Ray and the mysterious woman turned around, and before I could see their faces, I rushed back out of the store. ‘Lily! Is that you? Hold on!’ He yelled towing the woman with him. ‘Auntay Lilay? Whatta bout my red iceys?’ Matthew called. Dang it. T-ray will definitely know it was me now. I turned around and looked at T-Ray and the woman and plastered on a fake smile. ‘T-Ray! I didn’t know that was you!’
