Footsteps are temporary. They are my past scattering itself as I run through time. Footsteps leave behind the unfinished and the forgotten moments. They carry ideas which once seemed impossible or perfectly natural. Footsteps leave behind a reminder of the road which I have travelled. I have tried running from them both in the future and the past. Yet they are always one step behind.

The room was dark yet one could still see inside if they were to strain their eyes enough. It was thanks to an artificial light filled what would otherwise seem like an eternal darkness. The rooms contents consisted of only one object. A giant cylinder, like a crate or container, stood in the centre of the room. Or was it a sphere? The object morphed between shapes bending and changing like play-doh. Despite its constant flexing the objects metallic frame structure appeared strong. If one was to not pay proper attention they would simply assume that their eyes were just playing tricks with their mind. The object could deceive even the greatest of minds it could ward off almost anything, to some it would simply be invisible. It was the greatest living prison/trophy cabinet that had ever been built. To get in or out was impossible. Well at least it was. A man walked through bright darkness stopping before the object as it tried everything it could to get rid of the intruder. It didn’t faze him though as he stood staring into the object. Face to face with himself.

He reached in pulling his suspended self from the prison as it simply broke down into a grey liquid flooding onto the floor like water from a bottle. The man’s eyes opened he was finally free from his stay in that dreaded cell.

“It’s about time I showed up do you have any idea how horrible it was in there? I spent at least 200 years trying to sneeze. It’s not easy when you’re in a suspended state of consciousness. Now I’m finally out and I’ve gone mad talking to myself, do you have any idea how that feels?”

The other him handed himself a small fob watch then stared down at the gloopy liquid that only seconds ago was a prison.

“Yes, yes I know exactly how it feels.”

The two of them broke out into laughter as the man that had saved himself put his hand into his pocket before vanishing into thin air.
