“[Name],” a voice sung out to you. You were dreaming. This dream was no different from the dream you had last night, and the night before last, and the night before THAT, ever since you were told about the stupid move to Tokyo. Rather, the beginning of the dream was no different, and the setting was no different. You would either hear the boy’s voice and open your eyes, or you would call out his name and he would open his eyes. But the start of the dream wasn’t what mattered... It was the contents. You fluttered your eyes open to see the familiar alien boy floating next to your [favorite tree] tree. You smiled, something you had been doing often as of late, and walked up to the tree.
The alien boy was, well, strange, to say the least. He had green hair, which was short in the back and longer in the front. He kept the longer strands in the front bound together as what would seem to be a rule. He always wore mischievous expressions, as if he were up to something, but you consistently ignored it or passed it off as cute. He liked to tease you, but in this dream world, you could never bring yourself to be mad at him. He consistently referred to you as ‘bat-chan’ when he wasn’t waking you up, even when you made protests to your strange nickname.
Then, there was his eyes. He had the most beautiful golden eyes. It had become a habit of yours to catch even a glimpse of his eyes up close during every dream, and he had made a habit out of making you work to get those glimpses. You’d like to think that this working towards his eyes had made you a more open person outside of these dreams.
You... weren’t the most sociable person away from him. You found it easier to simply lock yourself up in your room and write or sleep or do school work than to meet someone’s eyes when you spoke to them. You knew it was rude, your mother constantly berated you for that fact, but you simply couldn’t meet someone’s eyes.
“Are you paying attention, Bat-chan? We don’t have much time to talk like this tonight, so try not to space out too much!” He laughed as you playfully batted the hand in your face away.
“Yeah, sorry Kisshu. I just.. feel like something bad’s going to come out of this. Us meeting like this. I-I don’t even know why you talk to me when I show up!” He didn’t show any realization when you said this, so you sighed and began to climb up to the top of your tree. “Well, there’s no point in dwelling on it, I suppose. What was that you said? We don’t have much time tonight?” He pointed towards the hourglass, which was steadily losing sand. “Huh, you weren’t kidding. It’s probably because I couldn’t seem to fall asleep tonight. Well, we can’t have a wasted session. You are the only person who really talks to me, you know.” As you spoke, you pulled yourself up onto the highest branch and sat down, getting more comfortable by the minute. “Sad, huh? The only person I can hold a conversation with is some alien with elf ears in a recurring dream.”
He chuckled as he floated next to you. “At least you have a planet full of people who won’t talk to you. I’ve lived underground most of my life. I think both of us have double lives between dreams.”
“What do you mean by ‘double life’,” you teased with a growing grin. “It’s not like you wake up every morning and plot how to destroy your archenemy, now is it?”
“It’s not like YOU wake up in the morning and don’t do anything at all, now is it?” He laughed when your cheeks flushed out of playful anger.
“You d-don’t know that!” He laughed as you spluttered.
“Oh, I don’t?” Just as you could feel your fists start to clench, his face was in front of yours, his eyes putting you into a trance. This was why you could never get mad at him. Every time you got even a little defensive (or offensive for that matter), he paralyzed you with a single meeting of your eyes. “How can you be so sure?”
“W-well, that’s because-” You never got to finish your sentence. As soon as the words left your mouth, the earth began to shake. Your tree was crumbling under the sudden, immense pressure being put on it, and you were crumbling with it. The tree gave way to gravity, and you simply slipped off of the branch you were sitting on, falling at what appeared to be a terminal velocity. You could hear him shouting your name and knew he was trying to save you. A bright light surrounded your body, blinding you. You felt his arms capture your body, but in some ways, it was too late...
You awoke with a start to your alarm clock ringing. You didn’t know why you were so scared. You love falling dreams. The wind rushing around your body, the feeling of your stomach dropping... They were wonderful. Nevertheless, you began to grumble as you stood and began changing.
It didn’t take long for you to be changed into your new school uniform. Today would be your first day at your new school; Daikan Junior High. You were very nervous, seeing as you sort of had no idea how to get to school. Your mother had promised that she would be driving you to school for the first day, but you could only bet that she wasn’t even awake yet. You began to brush your [hair color] hair out of your face, continuing to grumble. Something about today seemed... off. Your suspicions were confirmed when you popped in your contacts and looked in the mirror. A gray birthmark, of sorts, had decided to manifest itself around your right eye. You nearly let out a shriek in terror.
However, shrieking would have made things even worse. At that exact moment, a pair of strange ears popped up on your head. You bit back a screech and studied them, about to cry.
Bat ears.
A pair of bat ears was stuck on your head.
