She does well to hide her happiness that was bubbling up from the inside. Impassively, she replies, "I'm sorry. But I can never be your girlfriend... If that's what you're asking."

As his eyes darken, she is killing herself in the inside for making him show that expression. Was I too blunt?

"Why?" he whispers. She waits for him to continue. "Why can't you love me?" he looks at her with sad eyes. She bites the inside of her cheek to stop her face from creasing in sorrow.

"Can't you tell me why?"

"I'm sorry." And demons aren't meant for love.

He sighs as he leans in. She flinches. He's going to kiss me! But he doesn't, instead he rests his head on the locker she is backed up against. His cheek is dangerously close to hers.

He suddenly lets go of her right shoulder and slams his fist against the locker causing her to jump. The sound echoes down the empty hallway. He releases her other shoulder enabling her to escape. She sidesteps away from him and after giving him one last glance, runs away.
