I vividly remember the day that changed everything. I was meant to walk Jackson to school- Max had an appointment and so would arrive at school later. It was 8:25 and I had to start work at 8:45. The boys school was a 20 minute walk. You do the math.
I thought that as Jackson walked to school 5 days a week, often with school friends, he'd be alright walking on his own. One day without adult supervision wouldn't be the end of the world, would it? I couldn't be late for work- my boss would've fired me. This particular day, though, seemed different from any other. The, usually, infested with school kids main road was totally dead- no pedestrians nor vehicles. We weren't late. Despite the silence I explain to Jackson that "daddy was going to be late for work if he walked you to school". He understood what I was trying to hint and gave me that "I'm a big boy" look as I told him "it's best not to mention this to mum". Much to my surprise, Jackson who is normally the more 'clingy' child took it with great response.
