The Hyland was coming over tonight. Mom and Glenda took me to a saloon. I took a stop at a bookstore on our way and bought a copy of the first sequel of Agent Rex Hollander Trilogy: Dawn of Redemption. I wanted to know about Nathan Hyland a little bit better. His photo on the back cover looks nice. He has neat light-brown hair, a long face, and a pair of lazy eyes which strangely matches his masculine smirk. I hope the picture resembles the actual person. You know, you can’t always trust pictures nowadays. Especially with the hype of Instagram. Anyone or anything looks ten times better with that vintage effect.
The book helped me sit through the painful hair treatment. It was about this CIA agent named Rex Hollander who was betrayed by his pals who also sabotaged him into becoming an international fugitive. In this first book, agent Rex was trying to save his son who was kidnapped by a criminal mastermind for some wicked purposes while his wife’s whereabouts was still a mystery—she had been missing for a while. I liked the espionage idea, but my favorite part was the accidental partnership between Rex and this woman assassin named Claire. There was an inevitable sexual tension between them, and they had a perfect chemistry as a couple. It’s a dilemma not only for Rex, but also to me as the reader. The flashbacks and side stories about Kelly-Ann, Rex’s wife, created a beautiful image of their relationship. I haven’t finished it yet. I had to put it down because they were getting my nails done. Anyway, I was excited to meet Nathan after reading his work. There were several questions I’d like to ask about Rex Hollander.
Well, I had to postpone my questions because NATHAN DIDN’T COME. Yes, he didn’t. There were only three people of the Hyland this evening: George, his wife Tiffany, and their son Alastair. My presumption had been wrong! It’s NOT Nathan who is arranged to marry me, but his brother Alastair. I almost died on the spot when I found out. I could hear Glenda laughing at me from behind. You see, Al Hyland is every woman’s dream, okay (not sure about me, though). He’s handsome. He’s well-built, has tall figure, clear blue eyes, perfect teeth, blond hair, pretty much every quality a prince charming supposed to have. But…seriously? He’s fourteen years older than me! I’m not even sure this is legal. My parents must have lost their minds. Besides, there’s something peculiar about Alastair. He was being well-behaved during the dinner. However, he was also too serious and cold. I mean his expression. Even when he smiled it felt like he was hiding something. My grandpa and George dominated the conversation. I barely said anything and I was glad. I didn’t get much information about Alastair. All they were discussing was things about the companies I didn’t understand. The only time he spoke to me was when the family was leaving. Al shook my hand in a hurry and said ‘Nice to meet you.’ We didn’t even make eye contact and the touch of his skin made me shiver. He creeped me out.
