Chapter 6: Basic Training

After being interrogated that night, Sanic was escorted to the room he would be staying in. The monkey man did not bring him, probably to avoid being asked questions, Sanic thought. Instead Sanic was following a bat. She was wearing a ton of makeup and seemed vaguely familiar. They stopped at the door to his room.

"Alright sport." The bat girl said. "There you are. Oh incase you need me in the future, my names Rouge. Thanks for joining the cause." She gave him his room key, and walked away. The sound of her heels clicking through the halls. Sanic unlocked the door and stepped in.

It was a small room. There were two beds. One of them had an eager looking fox sitting on it. Sanic noticed that he had two tails. "Hi!" The fox said. "My names Miles. Miles Prower." Sanic scowled.

"That's what they told you, huh?" Sanic said in a disgusted tone. He lied down in his bed.

"Well...yeah." Miles said awkwardly. "But isn't what they told us all we know?"

Sanic sighed. "Well then, as far as I know, my name's Sanic. Sanic The Hedgehog." He rolled over on his bed so that he was facing Miles. "Miles?" He said. "Do you...do you know why we're here? Who Eggman is?"

Miles sighed. "No. And I suggest you don't ask anyone. They just electrocuted me."

"As they did with me." Sanic said. He nodded. "Well I guess we'll find out tomorrow. Goodnight Miles." But Sanic didn't sleep that night. He just lay awake in bed for what seemed like forever. But eventually, by some miracle, he found sleep. And it embraced him with warm open arms.

Sanic woke up before Miles that morning. On the foot of his bed there lay a neat folded pile of clothes. The same were on Miles' bed. Sanic picked the pile up. Just a basic green work shirt with basic green work pants. He put them on. When Miles awoke, he did the same. And then someone knocked on his door.

"C'mon!" She said. It was Rouge. "Let's go! Time for breakfast." They walked out and saw several other cadets waiting there behind her. They started walking, following her. Sanic looked over, and saw a flashy red echidna showing off to a cream colored bunny.

"My name's Knuckles." The echidna said to her. "But you can call me soulmate, if you like." The bunny giggled. Eventually they came to a stop. "Here we are, everyone." Rouge said. "Go in there and take a seat."

Sanic and Miles sat beside eachother at a circle table in the corner. The echidna named Knuckles sat down next to them and the bunny next to him. There was one more seat left. A big purple cat was wobbling towards them. He plopped his butt down, and Sanic thought he heard the seat crack. None of them talked to eachother. Sanic kept his eyes on the front of the room, where Rouge, a handsome black hedgehog, and a tall fat human man stood. The human man stood up and tapped a teaspoon on a glass. Everyone else in the mess hall turned to face him.

"Hello cadets." The man said. "My name is Dr. Eggman. I would like to thank you all for joining the cause." There it is again Sanic thought "The cause." What could it mean? "Let me tell you all what we're doing. Our goal, is to get all 7 Chaos Emeralds, and take over the world! I've already obtained one, and the teams who bring me the Chaos Emeralds, will receive amazing awards. Oh yes! Your teams will be the people who's table your at now. Introduce yourselves, and then we can eat."

Sanic turned into the table. Knuckles was looking at the big cat in disgust. "I'll start." Miles said. "My name is Miles Prower. Stop looking at me like that!" He added as Knuckles was looking at his tails. Knuckles shook his head. "Uhh I'll go next." He said.

"I'm Knuckles The Echidna. Nice to meet you." He gestured to the bunny. "Oh!" She said. She stood up.

"Cream The Rabbit! At your service!" She giggled, and sat down. The cat stood up. "Hi." He said awkwardly. "I'm Big The Cat." Sanic stood up.

"I'm Sanic. Sanic The Hedgehog." Sanic said. He looked around and saw a bar full of food. "C'mon Miles." He said. Miles stood up and followed him. They went to the bar, and loaded their plates with waffles and eggs.

When they got back to the table, Cream said, "Sanic! Miles! We were just thinking and we thought we should have a team name. Knuckles, you tell them!" Knuckles sighed.

"Cream said we should be called," He let out a deep breath. "'The Chaos Patrol'" Sanic tried not to laugh. And Cream could tell by the looks of it.

"Well does anyone have a better idea?" She asked. Nobody objected. "That's what I thought."

"Why do we even need a name?" Miles asked. "Eggman didn't say we did. Did he?"

Cream looked frustrated. "No!" She said. "But just imagine it. We find a Chaos Emerald, and Eggman announces it to everyone." She then tried to do an Eggman impression "'The Chaos Patrol has discovered the first Chaos Emerald. Congratulations!' Just imagine it!" Sanic imagined it. He snorted.

"Yeah. I can practically hear everyone's laughter." That caused them all to chuckle. Except Cream. There was then a siren. And red lights flashing everywhere. Everyone stood up. "What's going on!?" Sanic yelled to Miles.

"I don't know!" Miles said. "Maybe a drill?" The black hedgehog who Sanic saw earlier dashed into the room and began talking to Dr. Eggman. Eggman stood up with a microphone.

"Attention everybody!" He said. "This is not a drill! We have intruders! I repeat, this is not a drill! Run to witch ever of your team members rooms is closest!" Sanic turned to everyone.

"That's mine and Miles', Right?" He asked everyone. They nodded in agreement, and Sanic ran. It was the first time he ran since he could remember. He felt like he was the fastest thing alive. It wasn't until he reached his dorm that he realized his team was really far behind. Sanic held the door open. "Hurry!" He shouted. When they got there and ran in he slammed the door shut.

They all took deep and steady breaths. Tails sat on his bed, Knuckles lied down on Sanic's. Cream stood next to him. Big stood in between both beds. And Sanic leaned against the wall. He looked at the door. And in the window, was a pink hedgehog. Sanic looked at her, horrified. The door was knocked down.

She walked in, accompanied by a purple cat. "Thanks Blaze." She said to the cat. She hugged Sanic. "Oh Sanic!" She said. She looked at Miles. "And Tails too! Oh thank goodness! Sanic!"

Sanic pushed her away. "Who are you? Are you the intruder?" He asked backing away.

"Sanic?" She said in a worried tone. "It's me...your wife...Amy Rose." She looked at him horrified. "What did they do to you?"

"Nothing." Sanic said. Ask her! He thought to himself. She knows me! Just spit it out! But he didn't spit it out. Rouge and the black hedgehog came in and dragged Amy and the cat named Blaze away.

Amy reached out. And let out a weak wimped. Mouthing "He doesn't remember me..."
