The hard brick wall was ready to collapse from the punching and kicking. It was bumping like a strong heart beat. Her fists were now bleeding like a small flow but Leila didn’t seem to care. Her eyebrows were tight and she kept pressing her teeth so badly that she was now aching. There seemed to be so much anger in her body ever since she got back from that walk with Em.
“Leila, please stop already!! You’re bleeding”, Mrs. windstorm was now
screaming.
“Why should I ma? He’s fucking left me here all alone, without realizing that I have no one else in the world! He’s just like the other boys…They all leave!” Leila kept punching the brick wall.
Mrs. Windstorm pulled her away even if Leila kept kicking in the air trying to be released.
“I don’t want to talk about him anymore ma. Joshua has now gone to his sweet heaven and left me burning in my hell. As if he ever really cared... Every single guy I dated was no good for me… He was so selfish all along!”
“Honey…please stop screaming and listen to me…”
“No mum! I ain’t stopping screaming. It’s his entire fault I’m like this now. All his fault you hear me!!?”
Out of anyone’s knowledge, even her own, Mrs. Windstorm slapped Leila so hard that Leila shut her mouth right away.
“I’m sorry Leila. But you need to realize that this is no behavior taken by anyone. Look me in the eyes baby. Yes, Joshua has died. Yet he did not do it on purpose. I can’t think anyone more than a psycho that would want to die. And I’m pretty sure Joshua was not a psycho.” Now, the fifty year old woman was looking with such surety at Leila.
“But ma… Who is stupid enough to jump in front of a truck to prove himself right and leaving his best friend all alone…?”
“Joshua was… He has not left you alone though. We are all next to you and so he will, maybe he’s body won’t be here but there’s of part of Joshua that will always be in your heart, sweetheart.”
There was a long pause between the mother and the daughter and after a big slam against the wall. You could see the blood imprints of Leila’s fists on the snow-white wall. Half of Leila’s skin was cut and she had been screaming so awfuly.
«It hurts mommy...It hurts so badly...» Leila was now talking like a 3-year old who had just fell down and ripped its knee.
«I’ll bring some iodine to put on it honey and a handful of bandages...I-‘
«Not the wound mommy...My heart. It aches so much to have him gone. I wish i could bring him back. I feel like he has dumped me and i’m a dumped high chool girl where she’s now a failure. I can’t be without Joshua, mommy...I just can’t.»
«Oh, dear.» Mrs. Windstorm held Leila tight in her arms. «I’ll make the pain go away dear. I’ll make all the bad things go away and bring the sun back to your own blue sky»
«Sing me the lullaby mommy. That one that you sang to me and Joshua when we were little and Joshua would always fall asleep halfway the song.»
«Okay dear.
My little baby, you’ve been gone and set wrong ways
there had been tears on your face
don’t worry though, mommy’s here to protect
your innocent heart and once it’s healed
a smile will shine upon your face...»
Leila had now fall asleep halfway the song and was now far away dreaming... Some old memories occured to her tired mind, back to the days when it was beautiful. They were happy as the bears in summer when they wake up from their winter long sleep.
"Hahahah! Joshua come on! Don’t make fun of tha old lady’s bum!"
"Hahahahhaha! Are you kidding me Lei? Its so funny!! I know you agree!"
"Yeah i guess so..."
Joshua’s black hair were shining in the sun’s sunrays and his smile was brighter than the stars at night. The most beautiful 5 year old in the universe!
"Hey Lei...Wanna go and swing before the sun sets?"
"Yeah!! Gee, thanks Joshua. You know me so well!"
"Of course i do! We are the best friends ever Lei."Joshua was now smiling at Leila.
They were swinging for a long time; The other kids at the line actually gave up waiting ‘cause Joshua would not move from the swings. While swinging Leila almost fell onto the ground but just in time, while only her hair managed to touched the ground, Joshua grabbed her and saved her.
"Easy there Lei."
"Thanks Josh. I almost fell but you caught me" Leila was smiling while blushing.
"Hey..don’t ya know? I’ll alwayse be here to get you when you fall and i’ll always be by your side no matter what."
"You’ll never leave me alone, will ‘ya?"
"’Course no. We are a pack. Josh and Lei best friends forever. We’ll be together no matter what. Nothing will ever separate us Lei."
"Really?"
"Yeah! Nothing ever! Not even death..."
