This is a small thing I wrote for one of my closest friends, that_epic_turtle . It's shorter than most of my work, but time is short for me lately. I'll try to update more of this and my other two fanfictions. Sorry if this isn't my best. I hope you enjoy :3 I plan to update this again in a matter of a few days.

'She's really random.'

That was the first thought that crossed Turtle's mind when she met Panda.

They were never really close at first. It was just a walk into advanced math class, a brief chat, and sitting down into a desk before their teacher gave a command to take a seat.

All the memories and inside jokes would flood her brain. The remembrance of yelling at each other because they were separated in math, the tapioca pudding, the poem Turtle wrote about snakes...

The one time during spring break when the two were partners in crime for a few rounds of lazer tag, the mall trip the day before Panda's birthday, and the time they went to that one haunted area and named that one guy with the chainsaw Chainsaw-senpai were some important memories, only to name a few.

It was less than a week until the 11th of December now. In high Christmas spirits, Panda listened to a few holiday songs for the enjoyment. Turtle was waiting to catch up with all the anime she'd missed since she'd been grounded. Panda grumbled to herself; she hated the long period of time where she couldn't keep in contact with such an important friend.

The sun was about done setting outside in Panda's backyard. The background melody of the neighbors dashing around her old treehouse echoed in the distance, all brushed aside by the trees. She had her back up to a tree and just faced the woods across the yard.

It was a beautiful and breathtaking sight.

"Hey, Turtle," she imagined herself saying. "It's really pretty out tonight, huh?"

In the scenario, Turtle nodded. "Yeah. How's everything been?"

There was hesitation in Panda's voice as she spoke. "Fine, I guess. School's been a bit better."

Turtle glanced over at her friend. She noticed the long pause of silence before Panda had even started to talk. "Something's wrong," Turtle inquired. "Isn't there?"

She heard a quiet sniffle from Panda and saw her body begin to tremble. Noticing that she wasn't alone, she tried to calm herself down. "It's alright. It's long over now."

"I don't care if it's one or more factors," Turtle snapped harshly. "You're my friend and you know that. It's okay to cry when I'm here. You trust me, don't you?"

Panda mouthed a yes. "Then spill," Turtle said in almost a command. Her voice softened though, almost to the point where Panda couldn't differentiate between her pleading this or asking this much like her mother would."

"My thoughts aren't too great right now."

This gave enough hint to what she had to say. Turtle knew Panda missed her and was upset about barely ever being able to talk to her.

"I'm sorry," Turtle apologized. "I didn't anticipate it this much."

Panda continued on to speak about more smaller problems. "Yeah, not too many are all that nice to me. Well, I mean they're definitely 'wonderful' people, but," her voice broke off. "They don't seem to care if I'm present or gone."

Turtle remained still and silent, allowing Panda to rant out her issues with everything. "It's just, every effort I try and make is weighing me down with how emotionless they are towards me."

"You have us, you know," Turtle pointed out. "You'll make friends there eventually...?"

Turtle turned to the brunette, glancing down at the tight fist her hand had balled into. On impulse, she grabbed it lightly to comfort her. "I've kind of given up on that..." Panda truthfully replied. "There are definitely some people I would be friends with, but more lay on the no area. I guess it's not worth my time anymore."

She brought up how depressed she'd been and how her health was at a low peak at the moment. Turtle scolded her to get some sleep; after all, it is the thing that would benefit the most.

Suddenly, at random, Panda approached a new topic altogether. "I planned on going to my school's semi formal, actually."

"When is it?" Turtle asked in curiosity.

"Tonight."

Panda's feet made circles in the grass and dirt below her, as if this brought another weighing thought into her damaged mind.

"I planned on asking someone, actually, but I guess we don't really have all that much money for semi formal. Besides, I should wait and see if someone who means a lot to me will ask in the future."

Turtle's eyes widened. "I'm sorry. You know, I could always accompany you?"

Panda smiled, feeling tears watering and streaming from her eyes. "The person I wanted to ask, in a friend sort of way," she began, "was the one I thought would be perfect to go with." She laughed to herself in a hushed tone. "I was so nervous. I planned a stupid little way of asking, even."

Turtle chuckled as well. "I see."

"I bet you could probably take a guess of who it was," Panda replied with a snicker.

"It's someone we know?"

"Not just anyone we know," Panda answered, waving her finger at Turtle. "It's someone special to me. I wanted them to know that."

Turtle saw as Panda's lips curved into a smile as their eyes met. Turtle, in a complete guess and pure astonishment, felt her eyes widen to their maximum capacity. "You don't mean..."

"I do mean," Panda countered. "Matsuoka-senpai."

Panda hoped and desired for Turtle to really understand what she was trying to hint indirectly by the single date.

December 11th.

She went inside her room and wrote what she could recall, grinning and thinking about how stupid Turtle would believe her to be. That's how their friendship always was; jokes, seriousness, and a hell of a lot of laughing.
