Walking home, Ivy couldn't help but sneak a peek at the new garden down the street from her house. Slipping between two plastic slips hung between two branches, she entered the temporary enclosure. Wow, she thought, such a beautiful masterpiece. "Nature really is the mark of beauty."
"Yes, it is."
She gasped. She hadn't realized that she had said the last part aloud. She turned around to see a tall, handsome, uniformed man standing directly behind her. He was so close that she could just feel the heat of his breath on her forehead.
She smiled sheepishly at his expression. He was looking down at her with a half glare and half smile. With his hands on his hips, he said "Now who, may I ask, are you?" And that last word sounded a little more
like a joke than she was comfortable with.
"Who are you to ask me that?" she asked with extra emphasis on 'you.'
He cocked back his head, raised his eyebrows, and folded his arms at her question. Then pointed to the patch on his arm.
She leaned in close and said "What is it supposed to say? Coupon for one bean burrito at Jose's Taco Truck?" She chuckled to herself at her quick wit.
He seemed to tower even more over her now because he was angry. She insulted his status, or in normal speak bashed his manliness and thus his ego. But she still held her smug eyes as they looked up into his rather gorgeous brown eyes that she had just noticed at that moment. "You may find it funny to mock my job, but I don't."
"And why is that?" she asked in a childish tone, mocking him further.
"Because I have manners. You don't see me going around calling you a tree-hugger, now do you?" He smiled at his last remark, so she knew that he thought that she was one.
"I am not a tree-hugger! I am an environmentalist!"
"Intern, you mean," when she gave him a surprised look, he egged on, "Yes, I know about your...um...success."
She was boiling mad by that point. You could practically see her red hair turn to flames in the dark room. He just kept his ground, calmly controlling the situation. "Now, see here! 'Intern' does not mean 'idiot.' Just because I choose to further my education instead of going straight to some dead-end job doesn't make me any less than you." She jabbed her forefinger into his chest at that last syllable.
He held up his hands in defense, "Hey, hey! I never said that," he smiled and of course it had to be beautiful at a time like that.
Then he got closer to her, cornering her between the azalea pots and the stone wall. "You know, you have a very sexy voice when you get all fired up like that." She could hear his voice practically dripping with need. This made her mind switch gears to a very dark and hot part inside of her that had been hidden for far too long she then realized.
She stared up and was held with just his eyes as he inched closer to her, full of desire. She thought "If only he would hold me tight and kiss me, then I'll be able to get over this..." Then in a quick flash his hands were around her too small, all too fragile waist and his mouth was all over her neck, as if he'd read her mind. She closed her eyes and moaned in response. And that just drove him crazy...
