Chapter four

Chapter four

“No!” I said starting to go into denial. “You’re lying!”

“Would I lie to you?” She said innocently.

“Yes.” I said flatly as I got up and looked at the computer. But she wasn’t lying. Ryker’s name was paired with my name. “Damn.” I said under my breath. “This is not happening.”

“Let’s go complain!” She said as if she was a genius.

“At midnight?” I asked doubtfully.

“Damn.” She repeated.

I sat down on the bed and just looked at the wall. I have to go to homecoming with Ryker.

There was a knocking on my floor and I looked up at Taylor just as her phone beeped.

“The boys know.” I sighed.

She looked at her phone screen. “Drake sent me a message saying ‘Gross. What the hell?’…Yeah they know.”

Another knock on my floor proved that they probably all knew and they were probably all in Ryker’s room.

I stomped on the floor. “Leave me alone!”

“This is officially the worst thing that could’ve happened.” She muttered as she slammed her head down on my desk.

The next morning Taylor and I tried to switch who we were paired with. We tried convincing them to change us to completely new people or at least switch our dates. But they wouldn’t. They said that once you were paired with someone it wouldn’t change, although they did apologize to Taylor for pairing her with her brother.

But there was still no changing it.

We both sighed as we sat down at lunch the next day.

“What’s with you two?” Andy asked as she pulled her curly hair back into a pony tail.

“That stupid homecoming test.” Taylor mumbled while stabbing her fork into her salad.

“Who’d you get paired with?” Andy asked.

“Drake.” I said not letting Taylor answer.

Andy nearly choked on her Pepsi and she put her head down on the table while her body shook with silent laughter. “No way!” She said after she was finally able to control herself.

“The world is a cruel, cruel place.” Taylor said before taking another angry bite of salad.

“Who’d you get paired with?” I asked Andy as I took a bite of my sandwich.

“I didn’t take the test.” She said shrugging. “It didn’t seem worth it.”

Drake, Ryker and Chris all sat down at the table with amused smiles plastered on their faces.

Taylor glared at Drake.

“Aw, look at the happy couple.” Chris said while pointing to them.

“I am not buying you flowers.” Drake said before taking a bite of his sandwich.

“Speaking of flowers,” Ryker said piping in. “What kind would you like, Kaci?”

I glared at him while not saying anything. “She doesn’t look happy.” Chris mused.

“She’s not.” I said under my breath.

“I’m not that bad!” Ryker said faking being appalled.
