Okay, I was trying to come up with a cute name for an African American girl whose family sticks close to their roots, so randomly I thought Ja'Nee. Of course it was originally Jahni, but it wasn't... American enough? Jahni is still a really effing adorable though! As for the last name, I remember thinking of the whole name as Ja'Nee Renee, but that last name was too feminine. Her father would never be taken seriously, so I took an "e" off, so instead of "rah-nay" it's pronounced "reen."
The "Lee" part was just added to help it roll of the tongue, add a little bit of flair.
