"Hmm. Now, what to do with you?"

He strode forward, right up to the edge of the light, his limit. If I stayed where I was I would remain out of his reach. I would be safe.

"I can't exactly let you go," he was continuing. "Your a hunter, aren't you? A fierce little hunter."

Admitting it would get me killed, that was for sure. Maybe worse. But ignorance would result in the same consequences. In the end I nodded.

He smiled, showing the barest hint of fangs. Not a happy smile, not a comforting smile. It was just a slight change in his expression and it didn't reach his eyes, which, despite being red, were oddly mesmerizing. I wanted to look into those eyes for hours, look into those eyes and just be with him. Be held by him.

I didn't feel like I was in control of my body anymore. It was like I was just an onlooker, not responsible for my actions.

I stepped out of the blanket of sunshine and right up to the edge of the shadows. And then I took another step, leaving safety behind me. My feet kept on moving forwards until I stood right in front of him.

"Well, I can't let you continue to run loose."

His smile widened and he reached forward to stroke my cheek with his fingertips, surprising me with his gentleness.

His icy touch sent shivers down my spine. "Don't-" Was all I managed before I pitched forward into darkness.

Waking up was painful. The fact that I was slumped in a chair with my hands bound behind me didn't help.

The first thing I thought was, You broke rule number one, Memory. Never look into a vampires eyes.

I knew with a strange clarity that I was going to die now. He was a vampire and I was the little idiot who had gotten herself into this situation.

I was going to die, probably still tied to this uncomfortable chair, still hidden in the dusty corner of the rotten smelling warehouse. There would be nothing left but my drained corpse and, of course, a single red rose. This guy was smart, he knew how to not get caught; there would be no evidence left. The bite mark, the only thing that might give him away other than the rose, would probably be disguised by him slitting my throat.

And I deserved no better.

The only question now was why he hadn't already killed me.

"Your right, you are an idiot," his voice rang out of the darkness, sharp and clear. I whipped my head around, searching for him. "You should never have came back inside. But you made your choices and this is what they led to. I have no reason to spare you, you have practically given yourself to me."

A dark blur darted across the floor, stirring up a cloud of dust that made me sneeze. He appeared right in front of me, his red eyes reflecting the small amount of light, just like a cats. I reminded myself just in time and refocused of the centre of his well built chest. "I think I'll enjoy this."

Realizing I had this coming to me was completely different to accepting it. Desperately my mind grasped for something, anything that might prolong my pathetic life.

"How are you still hungry?" I blurted out. It was the first thing that came to mind and was, as far as distractions went, pretty sad. None the less he stopped, acknowledging my question. "I mean, you killed all of the others," I continued eagerly, "why do you want me?"

I made the mistake of looking up at his face then. It's not that he was trying to compel me, he had no need while I was restrained, but his expression? Scary beyond belief. It wasn't anything that you could name really.

His scary face faded into slight confusion momentarily as my question registered but he quickly covered it up.

"Huh, maybe your not an entire imbecile after all," he chuckled darkly. He had a rich voice that I would have found nice under other circumstances. "Your right, I'm not particularly hungry at the moment. That's why I'm saving you for later," he seemed to consider for a moment "What is your name?"

His question caught me off guard and I stupidly blurted out the truth. "Memory."

It must have shown on my face because his eyes lit up in response. "Ah, an unusual name for an unusual girl. Well Memory, my name is Arcaelus Croft. I think we are going to have fun together."

"It doesn't matter what you do to me or how you restrain me, I'm going to escape." It sounded like a desperate plea, even to my ears.

"I'm sure you will," he murmured. He reached behind him and pulled out two pieces of black cloth. "I'm sorry, but this will be for the best. Can't have you letting someone know your here, can I know?"

He leaned forward and used the first piece of cloth to gag me. I tried to yell but it was barely a buzz in the back of my throat. Struggling didn't do much good either.

His smile took on a cruel twist. "Save your strength, your going to need it."

My vision was then veiled by the second piece and the world went dark.
