I stood in shock, contemplating the possible results. I only had one outcome, my mom. It had to be her. I knew those eyes. I knew that glance.
Before I knew it, I was on the ground gasping for air. The corset part on the dress was tightening around my upperbody, crushing me. I made a rasping sound, as the air collapsed from my lungs. I gasped for air, gulping my mouth in a desperate attempt to stay alive. I was getting dizzy, and the now colorful, dotted room started to fade. I struggled to get out of the dress. I was trying to rip it off with my hands, but the without oxygen the body can't do much, including keep consciousness.
Woosh! The shutters on my window flew open, making a clang against the stone wall of the castle. I shivered in bed, being both cold and scared. The open window was letting in a chilling draft, and the sounds of the night. I could hear owls hooting and an occasionalk wolf howl.
I squeezed my eyes shut, trying block out all thoughts of vicious vampires, ghouls, and other monsters. I pulled the covers over my head to protect me from them. I tried to stop thinking about the monsters so I concentrated on swinging in the park with my dad and mom. At the thought of these memories of earlier today, I started to relax a little. I even started to smile, thinking about how happy Mopsy (my teddy bunny) was now that I wasn't squeezing him to death. I started to drift back off to sleep, when I heard a crack of a tree branch. I jolted awake and sat up in bed, my death grip on Mopsy once again. I looked around my room identifing various objects such as my dresser, rocking horse, and beanbag chair. As I continued the search around my room for some type of beast, a strong gust of wind blew through the window, howling as it raced through my room.
I jumped out of bed, opened my bed-room door, and ran down to my parents' room as fast as I could. I raced down the stairs and through the main hallway, dragging Mopsy behind me. I threw open the door to my parents' room, waking up both parents.
I stood, grasping Mopsy, at the edge of the bed, waiting for my parents to invite me in to sleep with them. I got scared in my room at night often, so I always relied on being with my parents to not be scared. I blinked up at them a few times, as they blinked and looked at me. My father smiled at me, but just before he was able to pat the bed and invite me up, my mother interfered.
"Darling, why are you over here? Go back to your room so your father and I can get some sleep", she scolded me. I was taken aback. Mommy had never done this to me before, and Mommy never called me darling either. I looked at my father hoping he would do something, as I blniked back tears. I didn't want to cry in front of Mommy, I was a big girl now.
I could tell he wanted say something to me, but it looked as if his mouth just wouldn't open. He looked at mother with a worried look and then back at me.
"Honey, leave now, back to your room", Mommy said, grinding her teeth at the same time. She looked very annoyed with me. I stared at her for a moment, frozen in the spot I was standing on. I couldn't go back to my room, not with all the monsters and vampires. Not with Mommy being like this. Tears were rising up fast and I had no other option than to burst into tears. I sat on the floor, my mind too worn out to will myself to stand, and continued to bawl at the edge of the bed.
My mother watched me for a few seconds before chiding me.
"Summer! This is no way for you to act, you are a princess and princesses don't cry. Stop crying this instant." At this, my tears came out even faster. Where was MY mommy? Why was she doing this to me?
"Summer, that’s it!", my mom screamed at me, getting up from the bed and grabbing my hand. "If you are going to behave like this, then you can sleep in a special place tonight!" My crying slowed, as I was unsure of what this 'special place' was.
"Honey, don-", my dad started before being cut off by my mom. "No honey", she screamed back at my dad, "If our little girl can't learn to behave, then she can sleep in the dungeons!" she started dragging me out the room and down the hall. I tried resisting her, but my 8 year-old strength was no match for her adult strength.
I wailed as she forced me down the stairs, "Mommy! Stop it! Mommy!" She ignored me, and continued to storm down the stairs, clutching my hand. I looked up at her, hoping she would see how distraught I was, turn around, and pretend this never happened. She looked back at me with cold eyes, but saw a change in them for a second. It was an emotion that I had not known of yet. The emotion I now knew so well, but yet so little of. Nearing the bottom of the stairs, I tripped and fell, causing myself to black out for a few secoinds.
When I woke up, my head was pounding. I could feel the blood throbbing threw my head, with every beat of my heart. I looked around, and I was in the dungeon. Mommy was gone.
I examined the cell, which had a musky scent to it. There was a stack of hay in one corner, and a tiny round stool in the other. The front of the cell was guarded by a thick iron gate, with intricate designs, carved into it. I pondered over why there was a need for the designs, when the only people who stayed here were prisoners. Realizing I too was now a prisoner, and by my own mom, my eyes swelled with tears again.
I crawled over to the hay, whimpering, and lay down. It was uncomfortable and I could swear that soemthing was moving in it. I grasped Mopsy, whom I smiled down upon through my bitter tears, and closed my eyes. I fell asleep to the sound of my own sobs.
