"Claire make sure you don't forget anything. We are going to be gone a while!" I shouted up the stairs as I put a tight harness around Casey.
"It's been awhile since we've visited Mom," I grinned while patting Casey's plump back softly. "I hope it isn't awkward between us, four years changed me... My girlfriend is a pig for Christ's sake." I laugh awkwardly. "But don't worry, you're not a pig to me, Casey." I tell her reassuringly as I rub her stiff hair with my palm.
"Lame, I'm ready. How much longer are you going to spend with that slab of bacon?!" Claire yells to me as she stomps down the stairs with her heavy footsteps. I silently give her a mean glare and put Casey in her cramped kennel.
"Oh yeah, when we get to Mom's house, don't call me "Lame", call me by my real name. I don't want her to see how much of a brat you really are." I growled trying to act strong, I didn't know why she gave me that nickname, either if she just wanted an excuse to insult me or if it's a force of habit, I thought it was stupid, and I didn't want our mom to see that.
"Whatever, you don't scare me, 'Liam'. Also I can say whatever I want, this is a free country."
I ran my fingers through my neatly trimmed brown hair. I sighed loudly as I tried to restrain the urge to kill the not-so-innocent nine-year-old.
She is probably the main reason that I get so easily irritated with people, nowadays. The little monster always did this to me, she puts on the innocent act whenever other people are around, but when she is alone, god she is the worst little sister I-no, anyone could ever have. She was snotty, impatient, girly, ungrateful, spoiled, greedy, little brat. I know it sounds bad, but if I had the chance to give her away, I would do it.
"Fine, let's just say goodbye to Dad, we are going to be away from him for a while. He will probably be lonely without your pretty little rat face." I say with a monotone voice, not really caring if she heard or not.
My dad worked as a lawyer, and that's why we lived with him after the divorce. I don't remember the exact reason why my parents split up, but my dad won custody four years ago, when my Mom decided to leave. We haven't really talked much and I wasn't allowed to visit her until recently, for unknown reasons. I don't really mind though, I liked my Mom, she was always positive and caring. She would help me up when I was down, and always kept to my side. But I'm a little nervous about meeting her again, I've changed a lot. I'm honestly not sure for the better or the worse.
It's been rough, I couldn't say with all my heart that my Dad loved me, he only gave his love to the brat, Claire. She was spoiled by him, and that's probably why she acts that. But it wasn't like he totally disowned me, he gave me stuff to keep me occupied and quiet, but that was probably just so I wouldn't bring it up or anything. But Dad did give me my pig, Casey, when Mom left, so I can't say I hate him.
Casey is my pot belly pig. She was the runt of the litter, or whatever you call the group of baby pigs, but she is super sweet. She always listens, she is very obedient and best of all, house trained. I only call her 'my girlfriend', because of an inside joke with my friend I used to go to school with after he saw how close me and her were.
Claire rolled her dark blue eyes, whipping her long dirty blonde hair side to side as she went looking for Dad. I had to admit that she was the dominate one of us two, even though she is six years younger than me. I sighed as I put mine and Claire's suitcases' upright and straight, then quickly walked into the living room where I last saw Claire disappear to.
"Uh, Dad. We are going to leave now..." I say in the doorway louder than my usual voice to get his attention, but he didn't budge. "Dad...Hey, Dad!" I exclaimed louder as I took a step in.
