Chapter One: Are American Schools Just Like Movies?!

I woke up to a bleeping sound, I reach for my alarm and hit snooze, in case I stare out my baby blue wallpaper thinking about the day ahead. A new day, new start, new life filled with brand new memories. I wonder what the American life will be like. The alarm starts ringing again this time I turn it off, I get out of bed and head to the attached bathroom to take a quick shower and brush my teeth.

I walk into my bedroom a towel wrapped around my head and body. I blow dry my hair then realize that I know nothing about an American school, yeah I've seen movies about them but unfortunately, I don't think American schools work like in the movies. Sigh. Do sluts really wear high heels and mini skirts? Do they really dye their hair blond and put their head in a crayola box for make-up? Do the jocks really wear the team jersey? Do the nerds wear massive glasses and have braces? Well one way to find out.

Once I'm done drying my medium long brown hair, I put it in a quick high messy bun. Well I don't feel like embarrassing myself on the first day so I'm going to wear something casual. A white t-shirt with an oversized white jumper, skinny jeans and white converse, I look at myself in the full length mirror.

"C'mon squirt." My dad calls. I grab my school bag and head down stairs. I try to hide a laugh as I watch my dad checking himself out in the mirror, car keys swinging around his finger and he's doing his famous 'come and get me' wink, its quite a sight. Especially for Daddy James.

Once my dad stopped checking himself out in the mirror, he drove me to school. Handed me a twenty and said he'd pick me up.

I head to reception, they ask my name.

"Lily James." They hand me my timetable and my locker passnumber. I get shown where my locker is. I smile to myself as I've always wanted a locker but in England I didn't have one, the school I used to go to now has lockers. Stupid school. I've been told by people I used to go to school with. I set off for my first lesson on a Wednesday morning, English with Mr Johnson. It was on the second floor, after a couple of minutes of wondering round the second floor and need for direction. I finally come across my class.

I knock a couple of times and the teacher introduces me.

"Class this is..."

"Lily James." I say barely audible.

"Okay Lily James go sit over there by Luke." He points to the third row and a guy looks up. I guess that's him, he smiles as I make my way over there, I return the favour. Out of the corner of my eye I see a girl giving me glares.

I was still getting glares by the end of the class but I took no notice to it. Luke is a really nice guy, he plays for the football (soccer as they call it) team, and yes he wears a jersey. Nope I am not surprised at all. He recently had a brake up but I didn't push the question further because it was none of my business. I told we had to move here because my dad got a promotion. He asked a few questions about England and what life was like.

"Do you like, have tea with the queen?" He asked.

"Do you have mcdonalds with Obama?" I asked my voice full of sarcasm. We had the same lesson next so we walked to Science with Ms Flatt.

Luke asked Ms Flatt I could sit by him because I didn't know who the rest of the content of the class were, and Ms Flatt allowed it. Luke sat on a table with two other people. Both boys, both in the soccer team (well if I'm going to live in America I might as well say soccer or they'll never know what I'm on about) and both wearing jerseys. Ms Flatt just gave us textbook work on the human body. I knew alot of this already because back in my old school we had just covered this. I wonder ir they've already covered the topic I should be doing now.

The two guys, me and Luke were sitting with were Michael and Ryan. They were Luke's best mates. Michael had a girlfriend, Kathy he said he'd introduce me. Luke was different to Micheal and Ryan probably the fact that they're twins and he well, isn't a twin. Luke was white, green eyes and light brown hair whereas they were mixed race, had dark brown hair in a short afro with hazel eyes.
