Fluffy Kittens, Prestigious Works and a Talent For Postulating the Preposterous
Somewhere within my life, and throughout the reasons which make any of us do the things which we do, I wrote a science-fiction novella called; 'The Fifth Descendant'
I'm still very satisfied with how it turned out but I'm not really sure why I wrote it? I have a talent for postulating the preposterous to be certain but creating something involves more than that. So, for anyone who wants a little bit of back story to the story, here's your DVD extra.
For anyone else, who is feeling less than enthusiastic at this point, would you please indulge me, as I explain the genesis, and many merits, of my most prestigious work; 'The Fifth Descendant'. In return for your magnanimity and kindness, I will try to prevent my books from appearing as a flashing billboard in your internet browser in the near future. I'll also try to make it interesting and a fluffy kitten may even make an appearance later, who knows?*
So, to start with, I had an idea and a desire to explore it. With my usual lack of sense and reason, I began collecting thoughts until I had a roughly book-sized amount of what we'll call, for the sake of argument, data. At the point of writing; 'The Fifth Descendant', I had already made extensive efforts towards my other two novels* and I wanted to try and write something shorter.
I settled on a novella length for the story because my subject matter was too rich, and its questions to expansive, for a short story. Over time, I worked on setting the pace and what level of detailing it was realistic to explore with the available words. Ultimately, I wanted to write a short introduction to my writing and I remained conscious of that.
Beyond that point, I just let it all go in my head and then filtered through the pieces. Many themes were explored from the nature of reality through to that of drug induced delusion. Revenge, morality and eternity. Ultimate purpose, worth and being.
For my side of this endeavour, my only regret is that I couldn't keep writing forever. A cut-off point is always a difficult thing but I'm over all very satisfied by the results of my discipline.
My graphic design work is also my own and the original image used in The Fifth Descendant's book cover was taken in Pisa, Italy.
How are those clicking fingers doing? If The Fifth Descendant gets one-thousand likes on Facebook then something MYSTERIOUS and AWESOME will happen. Seriously, people. MYSTERIOUS and AWESOME!
