"Kale, how much money do we have left?" Raven asked her new husband as they walked down the main street of their new town.

Kale pulled his little brown, rejected wallet out of his coat pocket. He opened it up and peered inside the little pocket where he kept their money. "$128 and 74 cents." The newlyweds sighed. Ever since they ran away together and got married, their amount of money was always just enough to but them a McDouble at McDonalds for the two of them. Not once did they have enough for a house of their own, so they traveled to a better city to hopefully make a better life. This new city was called Desiderata Valley. One the way, the two agreed that they should appply for a housemate so they could at least have a roof over their heads.

Desiderata Valley had a program for people who needed homes. The home owners would apply to say that their house was open and a person in need of a house would apply to live there. The couple read up about the system while at a library. They used the computer and found the article.

"Look! There it is!" Raven exclaimed, pointing to a building they recognized from the website.

The building was a welcoming dark blue (one of Raven's favorite colors) with dark wood shingles. Shrubs and flowers were everywhere and light grey steps led to a front door with dark wood matching the roof.

The Lytes walked up the stairs together and Kale opened the front door for his wife. The two arrived at a desk with a man typing away at a computer.

"Good morning, we would like to apply for a housemate." Kale greeted the younger man.

He looked up from what he was typing, turned around, picked up a packet of papers, and handed it to Kale.

"Please just fill out the forms and ask me any questions you have." the other man told them politely. "Welcome to Desiderata Valley."

"Thank you." Raven answered.

The couple turned around and sat in a white couch at the end of the building, next to a wall of windows.

"This one looks good." Kale suggested, flipping through pages of people whos houses were open.

"Yes. I think this is perfect." Raven replied, kissing her husband on the cheek. She saw the worry in his eyes. "It's okay, we'll make it."
