Twisted

The day before my 19th birthday, I was forever changed. Torn and hurt. Angry and hateful. Shocked and afraid. It all began as I was walking to the park. I lived in a town called Stevensburg. A small town in upper Montana. A tiny population of 120. I remember the day exactly.

Being a vampire you have a sharp sense of eyesight and hearing. You can see every detail on a piece of wood. Hear a butterfly's wings beat and the sound of rushing water from miles away. It was a autumn day. The leaves were just turning golden, red, and brown. Winter was just around the corner.

The leaves crunched as I sat down on the cold bench. Suddenly a familiar voice shouted "Hey Scat!", Scat was Bryan's nickname for me. Bryan sat down next to me. He had his normal look, ruffled brown hair, piercing blue eyes that you could get lost in.....Okay so I liked Bryan. We grew up together, I met him when I was 7 months. "I bet your excited about turning 19", he said grinning. "I'm officially an adult now", I said awkwardly.

Before he could respond his phone buzzed. He looked at it and then turned to me with a cheerful exspression. I have to go, he said sadly. Why? I asked. "Half of the town is celebrating your birthday!" He said running off. I smiled. Bryan told me everything, even when my family threw surprise birthdays. My stomach growled.

Lunch time! I thought. My canines slowly grew into my fangs, and adrenaline started pumping through my body. I stumbled against the tree and a light flashed before my eyes. I was in full hunting mode.

A leaf snapped about 5 miles away. My mind could calculate the sound waves into distance in less then 0.3 seconds.

The faint smell of a wounded squirrel caught my attention. I raced towards the east at the speed of light. The forest became a blur of mixed shades of green and tints of dark brown.

I stopped and quietly gasped for breath.

A small squirrel was dragging its back leg about 1 yard away. Suddenly, the sound of glass crashing frightened the squirrel which scampered away. I cursed under my breath. The sound of voices and cursing was carried through the forest.

Quickly, the adrenaline was drained from me and my eyes lost there vibrant violet color. I sped towards the sounds, and quickly hid behind a tree. The voices returned.

"You know she doesn't know".

"She? It's a vicious beast".

What were they talking about? I thought. I tiptoed to the open window of the Stevensburg Welcome Center basement. My eyes sharpened to the darkness and I saw Bryan standing at a desk in the front of the room. "We have to get rid of it", I heard someone say. "We all know she was the reason my father disappeared", Bryan said darkly. I gasped, His normally baby blue eyes were stormy. His ruffled brown hair was swept out of his face in a stressful manner. And when he spoke his normal cheery voice was husky and rough.

Suddenly a familiar voice chimed in.

"My daughter is a monster, yes I know. I also know you Bryan, have been acting like a friend for 18 years.

But the time is already delayed. She could very possibly destroy America. Her and her little wild friends. But it's better to wipe her memory then tell the painful truth and murder her."

I choked on a sob. My own father called me a monster? My best friend pretending to be my faithful friend for

18 years? Wild friends? Destroy America? Wipe my memory? Murder me? I collapsed to the ground with racing thoughts. I stumbled the whole way home. When I got home, I staggered the whole way up the steps and finally collapsed on my bed. My head was throbbing and my heart burning. What did that mean?
