"Who's the new kid?" Luis asked as he watched through the blinds.

"Isn't it Casper?" Carlos joined.

"Nah foo, Casper still in county. That fucker in for life." Luis answered.

"Then shit, I don't know."

The boys continue to bicker as I placed all the ingredients, pots, and pans to make everyone's dinner before I go to work.

Maria walked in getting ready to set up the table and suspiciously watch the boys.

"Maybe we should go check this fo-"

"Uh no, you two fuckers are gonna sit down and forget them alright." Maria stated.

The boys rolled their eyes and walked over to help set up for dinner as I started making the rice, beans, and chile con puerco.

"Mijo grab the plates." I asked Luis.

He did what I told him and brought them to me as I served each plate for the four of us, then placing them down at the table and sitting to eat with all of them.

"What time you leaving?" Carlos asked.

"Like in an hour and your on cleaning duty tonight." He groaned.

Luis chuckled.

"So about the party Saturday, what time, where at, what you gonna wear Moni, what we ridin'-"

Carlos stopped her, "She ain't goin."

"Yes she is."

"No she not."

"Stop and eat, both of you." I ordered.

I stood up and picked up my plate, walking over to the sink for later Carlos to wash. Then going to my room to get ready for work, leaving them to bicker on.

Pulling up my long black skirt over my white collar shirt and placing my black heals on, I rolled my hair into a low bun. I was ready.

"Your going to that party."

I jumped in fright.

"You scared me." I said.

She got off from leaning on the wall and came closer to me tying my apron for me.

"Sorry but I can't let you waste this party Moni. You missed out on so many girl but not this one, this party ain't just some hoodrat party. Nah this some straight up pachuco pachuca stylo mija so your going and your gonna meet the man of your dreams watch." Maria stated.

I shook my head, "Nah Maria it don't work like that alright, besides I probably got work-"

"No, no you don't because I took the chance to call Juan to let you off."

"Maria! No-"

"It's okay, he said it cool as long as he can come too...and is your date." My eyes went wide.

"Maria!" I slapped her arm.

Carlos swept in and asked "What happen?"

"Nothing." She said and looked at me with silent eyes.

I gulped and nodded, turning back to Carlos responding, "Nothing."

Grabbing my bag, I shrugged Maria off rudely and kissed a confuse Carlos goodbye. Heading out the house and walking to the near by bus stop to wait for my bus.

I hummed to the show-tunes that played in my head mostly like the song Duke of Earl or My Girl.

"Aye mami!" I heard shouts.

But I ignored knowing who it was, as I finally got to my stop where the bus was not that far from and the calling out were distant.

"Hello Ms. Castillo." Warm smiles made by Mr. William Turner.

"Hi Willy." I greeted back.

Taking a seat next to him which was my mark seat literally, I made conversation with the little old man about how life is going.

"Well Maria wants me to go to this party coming up, but you know me Willy, it's not my thing." He nodded.

"I know darlin' but maybe if you go you'll have a wonderful time and dance with your love of your life and not even know it. Just give it a shot, I promise you if it's like I met my baby girl Stacy then you'll have a wonderful time." He winked.

I chuckled and prepared myself for the stop.

"Maybe I will try, but no guarantee I don't even have a dress." I stood up.

Kissing a thinking Willy, I stepped out of the bus and started making my way across the street to my job which was a waitress working at Sue's Dinner.

I walked in to the smell of delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner being made or eaten, as well to the sound of oldies being played by the jukebox and voices by the people here at the dinner.

Betty my boss, little old lady came to me and took my bag but handed me a notepad and pen.

"Table six." She ordered.

I nodded walking over to where she placed me and started saying my regular line.

"Welcome to Sue's dinner, my name is Monica and I'll be your waitress for tonight. Would you like to know our specials before we start?"

"Monica, beautiful name it matches you, just like Castillo does." The deep suave manly voice said.

I looked up from my notepad, looking confuse until I saw who I was serving and my breath hitched.

'The New Kid.'
